While encouraging one or more programs and masterplans for Watson Island, the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce further recommends the creation of a task force be involved in the selection and approval of that Master Development Plan. We would appreciate this item being added to the January agenda of the City of Miami Commission and request a special appearance at that time. Hornsby, III, Chairman Watson Island Committee Attachment GREATER MIAMI CHAMBER OF COMMERCE Omni Interrctiond Compie:< 98-73 01. greater Miami I hamber of :ommerce RESOLUTION WATSON ISLAND WHEREAS, Watson Island forms a 66 acre gateway to the City of Miami from the water for pleasure yachts, commercial vessels and over 2.5 million cruise ship passengers per year; and, WHEREAS, the significance of Watson Island was recognized by the voters November 3, 1987 who approved the requirement of a public referendum to decide any future development; and, WHEREAS, the Downtown Waterfront Masterplan does not currently extend to Watson Island; and, WHEREAS, any development of Watson Island should be undertaken after most careful study and consideration of numerous programs is made regarding their value and impact on the facilities and resources in the community including, but not limited to: a) the Miami River b) Bayfront Park c) Bicentennial Park d) the FEC Propety e) the Downtown Waterfront Masterplan f) Dodge Island; and, WHEREAS, the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce urges the program(s) and masterplan(s) should be in effect prior to development, if any, on Watson Island related to the 1992 Celebration - Miami 192; THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Greater Miami. Chamber of Commerce urges the City of Miami Commission to: 1. authorize the creation of one or more programs and masterplans for Watson Island; and 2. create a task force of interested persons representing the community interests involved in the selection and approval of these program(s) and masterplan(s).
