Proposed Resolution
for the Overtown
Historic Folklife Village
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the
attached resolution allocating $17,000 from the "Black Archives-
Overtown Historic Village" fund to be used for a master plan for
the Overtown Historic Village in the City of Miami and
authorizing the City Manager to enter into an agreement with the
Black Archives History and Research Foundation for said project.
BACKGROUND:
The Department of Development in conjunction with the Planning
Department, has been working with the Black Archives History and
Research Foundation to plan and develop the Overtown Historic
Folklife Village.
The Black Archives History and Research Foundation was awarded a
grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) in the
amount .of $17,000 to prepare a master plan for the Overtown
Historic Village. The master plan will provide both the Black
Archives and the City of Miami with a working document for the
Village.
In that the Black Archives History and Research Foundation does
not have adequate staff to manage the NEA grant (see attachment)
and a $17,000 match is required, in -kind services will be
provided by the City 'of Miami, the Black Archives and
Metropolitan Dade County. This arrangement is acceptable to the
NEA consistent with the aspirations of the Black Archives and
will facilitate the completion of this important aspect of the
Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Project.
