HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-88-0131J-88-154 1/27/88 RESOLUTION NO. 9s-131 A RESOLUTION CONCERNING THE DESIGNER'S SHOWCASE '88 TO BE CONDUCTED BY THE MIAMI DESIGN DISTRICT ASSOCIATION ON MARCH 12, 1988 AUTHORIZING THE CLOSURE OF DESIGNATED STREETS TO THROUGH VEHICULAR TRAFFIC SUBJECT TO THE ISSUANCE OF PERMITS BY THE DEPARTMENTS OF POLICE AND FIRE, RESCUE AND INSPECTION SERVICES AND THE REQUIREMENT THAT THE CITY WILL BE INSURED AGAINST ANY POTENTIAL LIABILITY; CONDITIONED UPON THE ORGANIZERS PAYING FOR THE NECESSARY COSTS OF CITY SERVICES ASSOCIATED WITH SAID EVENT. WHEREAS, the Miami Design District Association will conduct the Designer's Showcase 188 on March 12, 1988; and WHEREAS, certain streets shall be closed to through vehicular traffic during specified dates and hours to insure the safety of the participants and pedestrians attending this event; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section I. In order to effectuate safe passage during the Designer's Showcase '88 to be conducted by the Miami Design District Association, the following streets are hereby closed to through vehicular traffic from 7:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 12, 1988: North Miami Avenue from 38 Street to 41 Street North Miami Court from 38 Street to 39 Street N.E. 1 Avenue from 36 Street to 41 Street N.E. 1 Court from 36 Street to 39 Street N.E. 2 Avenue from 36 Street to 42 Street N.E. 38 Street from North Miami Avenue to N.E. 2 Avenue N.E. 39 Street from North Miami Avenue to Federal Highway N.E. 40 Street from North Miami Avenue to N.E. 2 Avenue Included in the herein closure are all streets, avenues, alleys, ways and thoroug ares whic intersect the enumerated areas delineated in th s section. Section 2. Such closing of streets is subject to the issuance of permits by the Departments of Police and Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services. Said permit from the Department of CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF FEB 18 19A _.... l98-�31 Police is to be issued upon the full approval of the Chief of Police after giving all due consideration to the safety and traffic needs of residents, businesses and religious institutions in the area for entering and crossing through said arterials and upon the favorable exercise of the City Manager's judgement predicated upon all factors set forth herein. Section 3. Said authorization is hereby conditioned upon the organizers obtaining insurance requirements as mandated by the City of Miami and paying for all costs of City services associated with said event. Odio a City Manager RECOMMENDATION: DATE: " 3 E988 ALE: SUBJECT: Resolution Authorizing Certain Street Closures for Designer's Showcase '88 REFERENCES: ENCLOSURES: Commission Agenda Item February 18, 1988 It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution authorizing certain street closures for the Designer's Showcase 188. The street closures for Showcase 188 are subject to the issuance of permits by the departments of Police and Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services. The above authorization is conditioned upon the organizers paying for all the necessary costs of City Services and obtaining the necessary insurance requirements as mandated by the City. BACKGROUND: The Department of Community Development has prepared the appropriate legislation for certain street closures in connection with the 2nd Annual Designer's Showcase '88 to be conducted by the Miami Design District Association on Saturday, March 12, 1988. This is a consumer oriented event showcasing to the general public the talent and merchandise available in the Miami Design District. The organizers have indicated that this year's event will benefit the University of Miami AIDS Research Center/Direct Care of AIDS patient at Jackson Memorial Hospital. /vj Attachment: (1) Proposed Resolution C2:2-- /
