PROJECT NO. 341160, SUBJECT TO THE CITY OF CORAL GABLES EXECUTING AN INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT. t WHEREAS, the City of Coral Gables is proposing to landscape the median of U.S. 1 between Rea Road and Douglas Road; and WHEREAS, that portion of the proposed landscaping project between Brooker Street and Douglas Road lies within the City of Miami; and WHEREAS, the City of Coral Gables has requested that the City of Miami participate in the funding of the improvements between Brooker Street and Douglas Road; and WHEREAS, the Director of the City of Coral Gables Department of Public Works has committed the City of Coral Gables to maintaining the proposed landscaping within the median of U.S. 1 between Brooker Street and Douglas Road; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The City of Miami hereby agrees to participate with the City of Coral Gables in a proposed median landscaping project along U.S. 1 between Red.Road and Douglas Road. The expenditure of City of Miami funds in an amount not to exceed $60,000 for the City of Miami's portion of the project between Brooker Street and Douglas Road is hereby authorized, subject to the City of Coral Gables executing an Interlocal Agreement acceptable to the City of Miami Law Department and Public Works Department. Section 3. City of Miami funding for this project shall be paid from the Citywide Street Improvements - FY'88 Account, C.I.P. Project ND. 341160. Section 4. O di REFERENCES: City Manager (For Commission Meeting of ENCLOSURES: February 11, 19 8 8) RECOMMENDATION: It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution authorizing City of Miami participation in a median landscaping project on U.S. 1 (South Dixie Highway) with the City of Coral Gables, and further authorizing the expenditure of City of Miami funds not to exceed $60,000 for the City of Miami's share of the improvements, subject to the City of Coral Gables executing an interlocal agreement. BACKGROUND: The Department of Public Works has reviewed a request from the City of Coral Gables and has determined that the attached resolution whereby the City of Miami agrees to participate with the City of Coral Gables in landscaping the median of U.S. 1 (South Dixie Highway) between Red Road and Douglas Road is in the best interest of the City. The City has been asked to pay an amount not to exceed $60,000 for that portion of the project within the City of Miami between Brooker Street and Douglas Road. The funds are available in the Citywide Street Improvements-FY'88 Account, Capital Improvement Program project no. 341160. The City of Coral Gables has agreed to maintain the proposed landscaping in the portion of the project which lies within the City of Miami. Attached is a copy of the letter from the City of Coral Gables whereby the City of Miami is invited to participate, the Director of the Coral Gables Department of Public Works commits the City of Coral Gables to maintenance of the project, and the City of Miami's share of the project costs are itemized. Genova Cordovi for meeting with me and Alberto Delgado on Friday afternoon, December 4, 1967, concerning the proposed median landscaping project along the O.S.1 corridor between Red Road and Douglas Road. Confirming our discussion, the City of Miami is invited to participate in this project, with the City of Coral Gables providing on a turnkey basis all the O.S.1 median improvements between Brooker Street and Douglas Road.
