DOU ERTY CHIEF DEPUTY CITY ATTORNEY CITY ATTO Y —2— 88-125. CITY OF MIAMI. FLORIDA INTER-OFFICI MEMORANDUM To. Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission FROM: Cesar H. Odio City Manager RECOMMENDATION: DATE: FEB 3 1988 FILE: Resolution authorizing the SUBJECT: execution of an Agreement with Greater Miami United for the LISC/Miami Project REFERENCES: ENCLOSURES: It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution authorizing the execution of an agreement, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, between the City of Miami and Greater Miami United, Inc. (GMU) for the purpose of continuing the City's support as a funding partner in the Local Initiative Support Corporation (LISC)/Miami Project. BACKGROUND: The Department of Community Development has analyzed the need to enter into an Agreement with Greater Miami United, Inc. for the continued support of the LISC/Miami Project. ® On May 10, 1984, the City Commission passed Resolution No. 84-540 approving an Agreement with Greater Miami United, Inc. in the amount of one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) for the purpose of becoming a funding partner in the $1.4 million loan and grant fund established by LISC for the Miami area nonprofit organizations. As a result of City funding, LISC was awarded several grants totalling in excess of one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) to City Community Development Corporations (CRCs) which assisted in the development and the implementation of significant economic projects during the last fiscal year. In order to maintain the financial support vital to the development of community projects through community organizations, it is necessary to continue the public and private investment in the LISC loan and grant fund. Therefore, it is recommended that the City Commission authorize the execution of an agreement and provide seventy thousand dollars ($70,000) as allocated by Resolution No. 87-411, as part of its contribution to the existing LISC fund for the Miami area. These funds will be given to GMU. A8-125;
