NORTHWEST 3RD AVENUE, MIAMI, FLORIDA AS "OFFICER JOEL PEREZ WAY"
PURSUANT TO SECTION 54-137, OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA, AS AMENDED ("CITY CODE"); FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE
PLACEMENT OF A MARKER DESIGNATION IN THE PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY
LOCATED IN THE MEDIAN AT THE INTERSECTION OF NORTHWEST 2ND
AVENUE AND NORTHWEST 27TH TERRACE, MIAMI, FLORIDA TO HONOR
OFFICER JOEL PEREZ, PURSUANT TO SECTION 54-136(1) OF THE CITY CODE,
SUBJECT TO ALL APPLICABLE PERMITTING REQUIREMENTS; FURTHER
DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO

A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION CODESIGNATING
NORTHWEST 27TH TERRACE BETWEEN NORTHWEST 2ND AVENUE AND
NORTHWEST 3RD AVENUE, MIAMI, FLORIDA AS "OFFICER JOEL PEREZ WAY'
PURSUANT TO SECTION 54-137, OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA, AS AMENDED ("CITY CODE"); FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE
PLACEMENT OF A MARKER DESIGNATION IN THE PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY
LOCATED IN THE MEDIAN AT THE INTERSECTION OF NORTHWEST 2ND
AVENUE AND NORTHWEST 27TH TERRACE, MIAMI, FLORIDA TO HONOR
OFFICER JOEL PEREZ, PURSUANT TO SECTION 54-136(1) OF THE CITY CODE,
SUBJECT TO ALL APPLICABLE PERMITTING REQUIREMENTS; FURTHER
DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO
THE HEREIN DESIGNATED OFFICES.
WHEREAS, Officer Joel Perez ("Officer Perez") was born in Puerto Rico, came to Miami
as a young child, and graduated from Miami Beach High School where he met his high school
sweetheart and mother of their two children; and
WHEREAS, Officer Perez joined the City of Miami ("City") Police Department ("MPD") on
February 11, 1998 and faithfully served the MPD and the community for twenty-five (25) years;
and
WHEREAS, Officer Perez was a member of the Special Weapons and Tactics ("SWAT")
team of the MPD for fifteen (15) years, a highly valued member of the Wynwood Problem
Solving Team, and served as a Neighborhood Resource Officer in the Wynwood area; and
WHEREAS, Officer Perez was a man of honor and compassion that touched countless
lives through his personal life and professional career; and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate that the City honor Officer Perez for his commitment to the
City and its residents by co -designating Northwest 271" Terrace between Northwest 2nd Avenue
and Northwest 3rd Avenue, Miami, Florida as "Officer Joel Perez Way" and by placing a marker
in the public right-of-way located in the median at the intersection of Northwest 2nd Avenue and
Northwest 271" Terrace, Miami, Florida, with funds for the costs associated with the installation
of the co -designation and the marker to be covered by the District 5 Commission Office;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are
adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this section.
Section 2. Northwest 271" Terrace between Northwest 2nd Avenue and Northwest 3rd
Avenue, Miami, Florida is hereby co -designated as "Officer Joel Perez Way," pursuant to
Section 54-137 of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, as amended ("City Code"), with costs
associated with the installation of same to be paid for by the District 5 Commission Office.
Section 3. The placement of a marker in the public right-of-way located in the median at
the intersection of Northwest 2nd Avenue and Northwest 27th Terrace, Miami, Florida, pursuant
to Section 54-136(1) of the City Code to honor Officer Joel Perez is authorized, subject to all
applicable permitting requirements, with the costs associated with the installation of same to be
paid for by the District 5 Commission Office.
Section 4. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the
Departments of Police, Fire -Rescue, and Solid Waste; the Miami -Dade County Department of
Transportation and Public Works; the United States Postal Service; and, if a State of Florida
road, to the Florida Department of Transportation, District Six, for sign installation within the
newly designated roadways.
Section 5. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.

Pursuant to the resolution, this item became effective immediately upon adoption by the Commission.
The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all legal requirements that may be
imposed, including but not limited to, those prescribed by applicable City Charter and City Code
provisions.
