A RESOLUTION CONCERNING A PARADE TO BE CONDUCTED BY THE CITY OF MIAMI COMMITTEE ON BEAUTIFICATION AND ENVIRONMENT ON MAY 6, 1988 AUTHORIZING THE CLOSURE OF DESIGNATED STREETS TO THROUGH VEHICULAR TRAFFIC; SUBJECT TO THE ISSUANCE OF PERMITS BY THE DEPARTMENTS OF POLICE AND FIRE, RESCUE AND INSPECTION SERVICES. WHEREAS, the City of Miami Committee on Beautification and Environment will conduct a paraile on May 6, 1988; and WHEREAS, certain streets must be closed to through vehicular traffic during specified dates and hours to insure the safety of participants and pedestrians attending this event; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. In order to effectuate safe passage during the Parade to be conducted by the City of Miami Committee on Beautification and Environment the following streets are hereby closed to through vehicular traffic from I1s00 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. on May 6, 1988 as specified below: Flagler Street between Biscavne Boulevard and West First Avenue. Southeast 3rd Avenue between East Flagler Street and Southeast First Street. Included in the herein closure are all streets, avenues, alleys, ways and thoroughfares which intersect the enumerated areas delineated in this Section. Section 2. Such closing of streets is subject to State approval and issuance of permits by the Departments of Police and Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services. Od i City Manager RECOMMENDATION: CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM and DATE MAR 3 i 19FA "LE Commission susJECT Resolution Closing Streets for Committee on Beauti- fication Parade REFERENCES Commission Agenda Item ENCL0SUREJhpri1 14, 1988 It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution authorizing the closure of certain streets for a parade to be conducted by the Committee on Beautification and Environment on Friday, May 6, 1988. The street closures are subject to the issuance of permits by the Departments of police and Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services. BACKGROUND: The Department of Community Development has prepared the appropriate legislation for the closure of Flagler Street between Biscayne Boulevard and West First Avenue for the 1988 Cleanup, Fix -up, Paint -up Parade to be conducted by the City of Miami Committee on Beautification and Environment on Friday, May 6, 1988. The parade will start at 11:00 a.m. at the intersection of Flagler Street and Biscayne Boulevard and proceed West on Flagler Street to the Courthouse, where it will end approximately at noon. The parade is being conducted for the purpose of focusing attention on the efforts to keep Miami clean, and will feature City of Miami officials, sanitation trucks, police vehicles and high school marching bands.
