Housing Development Grant Program (HoDAG) ENCLOSURES: It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Ordinance establishing a new Special Revenue Fund entitled "Housing Development Grant Program," and appropriating funds in the amount of $4,650,000 from Housing Development Grant Program funds, for the purpose of providing financing for the construction of an one hundred twenty-five* (125) unit rental housing development for the elderly in the City of Miami. BACKGROUND: The Housing Conservation and Development Agency recommends ratification cif the attached appropriation 'ordinance. The ordinance identifies and appropriates Housing Development Grant Program funds in the .amount of $41650,000 for the purpose of providing financing for the construction of an one hundred twenty- five (125) unit, rental housing development in the City of Miami. In May of 1987, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced the availability of $99,550,000 in funding under the Housing Development Grant Program (HoDAG). Through the HODAG Program, U.S. HUD provides financial assistance to local governments to assist in financing the construction or rehabilitation of rental housing units. HoDAG Program funds may be used to provide grants, loans, interest reduction payments or other forms of assistance to developers for the construction or. substantial rehabilitation of rental housing in which at least twenty percent (20%) of the units will be occupied by lower income households.
