RESOLUTION NO. %S -,3HF
A RESOLUTION STRONGLY URGING METROPOLITAN
DADE COUNTY TO INCREASE, ITS FNFORCEMF'NT OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI MINIMUM HOUSING STANDARDS
AND VACANT HOUSING STRUCTURES MINIMUM
STANDARDS, WITH RESPECT TO PROPERTIES LOCATED
WITHIN THE CITY OF MIAMI , FLORIDA OR IN THE
ALTERNATIVE, TO TAKE SUCH OTHER LEGISLATIVE
ACTION TO PERMIT THE CITY OF MIAMI TO ENFORCE
BOTH THE SOUTH FLORIDA BUILDING CODE AND THE
MINIMUM HOUSING CODE BEFORE ITS CODE
ENFORCEMENT BOARD; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY
CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION
TO THE HEREIN NAMED OFFICIALS.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami has an overwhelminq number of
structures which are in deplorable condition; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami desires an increase in the
enforcement of regulations concerning such structures; and
WHEREAS, Article III of Chapter 17 of the Code of
Metropolitan Dade County, Florida provides that the minimum
housing enforcement officer of Dade County, Florida shall
regulate and enforce the minimum housing standards for properties
located within the City of Miami, Florida, this function having
been transferred to the County by the City by virtue of City of
Miami Resolution No. 8660 and Dade County Ordinance No. 68-14;
and
WHEREAS, Dade County Ordinance No. 81-2 prohibits the
enforcement of both the South Florida Building Code and Minimum
Housing Code before the City of Miami's Code Enforcement Board.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The Miami City Commission hereby strongly urges
Metropolitan Dade County, Florida, to increase its enforcement of
the City of Miami minimum housing standards and vacant housing
structures minimum standards with respect to properties located
within the City of Miami, Florida.

Section 2. in the alternative, the Miami City Commission
hereby strongly urges Metropolitan Dade County, Florida, to take
such other legislative action to permit the City of Miami to
enforce both the South Florida Building Code and the Minimum
Housing Code before the City of Miami Code Enforcement Board.
Section 3. The City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit a
copy of this Resolution to the board of Dade County Commissioners
and to Acting County Manager, Dewey Knight.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 28th day of April 1988.
