HomeMy WebLinkAboutO-10437ORDINANCE NO , 1-013 i AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING THE MIAMI INTERNATIONAL TRADE BOARD, SETTINO FORTH THE COMPOSITION, AND TERMS OF A SEVVTtEN (17) MEMBER CITY COMMISSION APPOINTED ADVISORY BOARD; pROVIbINO FOR A QVORUM. WHEREAS, the City of Miami, over the course of a decade has emerged as a major business center and gateway to the Caribbean, Central and South America; and WHEREAS, maintaining and enhancing Miami's competitive position in a rapidly changing global economic environment, increasingly requires the implementation of innovative approaches to international trade and business development; WHEREAS, the City Manager had organized an International Trade and Development Advisory Committee (ITDC) for the City several years ago; and WHEREAS, the ITDC for various reasons has ceased to function on an active basis and the City of Miami for the last two and one half (2 1/2) years has not maintained a viableinternational trade advisory body on an active basis; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. There is hereby established an International Trade Board Section 2 (a) The Board shall be advisory and shall consist of seventeen (17) members appointed by the City Commission with nine (9) members constituting a "quorum for the purpose of convening any Board Meeting. All meetings of the Board shall be open to the public. An affirmative vote of five (5) members is required for any Board action to be :taken. One member of the City administration who shall serve a term of office as designated by the City Commission iii. Fifteen (15) members whose original term of office shall. expire June 30, 1990, Such members may be reappointed for three additional terms. The Mayor and each City Commissioner shall each have the right to nominate three persons to serve as. Hoard members. Members shall be eligible for reappointment as provided herein. Commencing July 1, 1990, the 'terms of office for these 15 members shall be for periods of one year. No member shall be eligible for reappointment if said reappointment results in the member serving for more than five consecutive years. iv. A vice -chairperson shall be appointed by the Board from among its members The appointment shall be for a term of one year from the date of the appointment. V. If a vacancy shall occur in the membership of the Board, except for the Chairperson and the member appointed from the City administration, such vacancy will be filled for the unexpired term by the appointment of a person upon being nominated by the Mayor or City Commissioner who shall have nominated the member whose position has become vacant.
