Fields As co-sponsors with the City of Miami in the development of the Overtown Historic Folklife Village, we are faced once again in a battle to save the historic D.A. Dorsey House located at 250 N.W. 9th Street, Overtown from the wrecking ball. On January 12, 1988 representatives from both the Black Archives Foundation and the City of Miami Department of Development appeared before the Metro -Dade Unsafe Structures Board. The action of that board were as follows: said structures be secured immediately and maintained secure and through a licensed contractor, obtain all necessary permits through the Unsafe Structures Section with architect's sealed plans, and begin repairs within one hundred and twenty (120) days from today to make the structure conform with the latest South Florida Building Codes. Repairs shall be substantially complete within one hundred and sixty (160) days of obtaining the permit. Substantial completion shall be determined by the Unsafe Structures Section. If any of the above conditions are not complied with, said structures shalt be demolished by the City as soon as practicable. The Black Archives Foundation to date has been unsuccessful in securing funds to purchase the land and begin the restoration process. It is imperative that a representatimp hp placed on the ,lung 9, 1988 City Commission agenda to request emergency funding. Please apprise me of your action as soon as possible. 'ncerely, J ' ames E.
