Legislative Update
The 1988 Florida Legislative session has now concluded. Through
the combined efforts of representatives of Holland and Knight and
the City's executive and administrative branches, working closely
with the Dade Delegation, the City realized a large percent of
its funding requests. Considering the tight state budget, the
results obtained have to be considered a success. It should be
remembered, however, that the Governor has not yet approved the
budget. He is obligated to act on the budget by the end of June.
Those programs receiving funding were:
- Bayfront Park
- Manuel Artime Center
- African Square Park
- Roberto Clemente Park
- Overtown Advisory Board Project
- Little Havana Activities Center
- Miami Film Festival
- ASTA (American Society of
Travel Agents)
Gusman Center
- Lummus Park
TOTAL
- Youth Gangs Program (Dade County)

* Senate Bill 792 provides for $100,000 for FY 189-90, and
each year thereafter.
** These funds were requested through a grant application, and
were approved.
*** This $200,000 is an appropriated amount. House Bill 184,
which is part of the Crime Omnibus Bill 1653, provides for
additional funding. Senate and House sponsors are working
with an HRS committee to obtain additional funding for this
combined Dade County and City project.
