Pi1-4-5 1 T A RESOLUTION CONCERNING CERTAIN ACTIVITIES TO BE HELD IN CONNECTION WITH THE GRAND OPENING OF FIRE HOUSE 4 AND A CHARITY EVENT TO BENEFIT THE UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI/JACKSON MEMORIAL HOSPITAL BURN CENTER JUNE 29 THROUGH JULY 3, 1988 SPONSORED BY FIRE HOUSE 4 RESTAURANT AND THE BRICKELL AREA ASSOCIATION IN COOPERATION WITH THE CITY OF MIAMI; PROVIDING FOR THE CLOSURE OF DESIGNATED STREETS TO THROUGH VEHICULAR TRAFFIC AND ESTABLISHING A PEDESTRIAN MALL SUBJECT TO THE ISSUANCE OF PERMITS BY THE DEPARTMENTS OF [POLICE AND FIRE, RESCUE AND INSPECTION SERVICES; FURTHER ESTABLISHING AN AREA PROHIBITED TO RETAIL PEDDLERS DURING THE PERIOD OF THE EVENT, CONDITIONED UPON THE REQUIREMENT THAT THE CITY WILL BE INSURED AGAINST ANY POTENTIAL LIABILITY AND UPON ORGANIZERS PAYING FOR ALL NECESSARY COSTS OF CITY SERVICES. WHEREAS, certain activities will be held in connection with the grand opening of Fire House 4 and a charity event to benefit the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital Burn Unit sponsored by the restaurant and the Brickell Area Association in cooperation with the City of Miami; and WHEREAS, antique fire apparatus and City of Miami fire trucks will be stationed and exhibited in the vicinity of Fire House 4 during the event; and WHEREAS, certain streets must be closed to through vehicular traffic, establishing a pedestrian mall and an area restricting retail peddlers on June 29 and 30 and July 2 and 3, 1988 during specified hours to ensure the safety of participants and attendees; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. In order to effectuate safe passage and establish a temporary pedestrian mall during the grand opening of Fire House 4 and a charity event to benefit the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital Burn Center, the following CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF JUN 9p 1988 SOLUTION No. 148--51 . ip 4* streets are hereby closed to through vehicular traffic on Wednesday, June 29, 1988 from 5t010 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.; on Thursday; June 30, 1988 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.; on Saturday, July 2, 1988 from 11:00 A.M. to 5ta0 P.M.; an6 on Sunday, July 3, 1988 from 11:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., as specified below: South Miami Avenue from Tenth Street to Eleventh Street. Southwest Eleventh Street from South Miami Avenue to Southwest First Avenue. Included in the herein closure are all streets, avenues, alleys, ways and thoroughfares which intersect the enumerated areas delineated in this Section. Section 2. Such closing of streets is subject to State approval and issuance of permits by the Departments of Police and Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services. Said permit from the Department of Police is to be issued upon the full approval of the Chief of Police after giving all due consideration to the safety and traffic needs of residents, businesses, and religious institutions in the area for entering and crossing through said arterials and upon the favorable exercise of the City Manager's judgement predicated upon all factors set forth herein. Section 3. Pursuant to the provision of City Code Section 39-13, all retail peddlers' occupational licenses issued under the provisions of Chapter 31 of the City Code, as amended, will not be valid on June 29 and 30, 1988, during the hours of 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and on July 2 and 3, 1988 during the hours of 11:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. on the above designated streets and on all intersecting streets for two blocks in all directions. Section 4. Such authorizations are hereby subject to the organizers obtaining insurance requirements as mandated by the City of Miami and paying for all necessary costs of City services. June 9, 1988 It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution authorizing the closure of certain streets for the grand opening of Fire House 4 and a charity event to benefit University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital Burn Unit to be conducted by Fire House 4 Restaurant operators and the Brickell Area Association. The street closures are subject to the issuance of permits by the Departments of Police and Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services. BACKGROUND: The Department of Community Development has prepared the appropriate legislation for the closure of South Miami. Avenue and Southwest 11th Street for the Grand Opening of Fire House 4 and a charity event to benefit the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital Burn Unit during the period June 29 through July 3, 1988. Antique fire equipment and fire trucks will be exhibited in the area of the event: The Department of Community Development and the Police Department are working with the organizers to minimize traffic disruptions in the area of the event.
