FOR FURNISHING OFFICE FURNITURE FOR THE HOUSING CONSERVATION AND DEVELOPMENT AGENCY AT A TOTAL PROPOSED COST OF $29,279.82; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR FROM HOUSING CONSERVATION ANU DEVELOPMENT AGENCY'S HOUSING BOND, COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT AND SECTION 8 BUDGET; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO INSTRUCT THE CHIEF PROCUREMENT OFFICER TO ISSUE PURCHASE ORDERS FOR THIS EQUIPMENT. WHEREAS, pursuant to public notice, sealed bids were received June 27, 1988 for the furnishing of Office Furniture to the Housing Conservation and Development Agency; and WHEREAS, this project has been designated as a black set- aside by the City Manager, under the provisions of Ordinance #10062 Minority Ordinance; and WHEREAS, invitations were mailed to thirteen (13) registered black minority vendors and advertisements were published in newspapers of general circulation soliciting bids from minority vendors not registered with the City and two (2) bids were received; and WHEREAS, funds for this purchase will be available from the Housing Conservation and Development Agency's Housing Bond, Community Development Block Grant and Section 8 budget; and WHEREAS, this equipment will be used by the Housing Conservation and Development Agency for the purpose of supplementing existing inventory to adequately serve the additional staff employees as a result of the establishment of the Agency; and WHEREAS, the City Manager and the Director of the Housing Conservation and Development Agency recommend that the bid received from 3RD World Computer Company Inc., a black-owned minority firm be accepted as the lowest responsible and responsive bid; CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF JUL 2r. 1988 RESOLUTION No. ~~~~~ NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVEb BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: ~ Section 1. The June 27, 1988 bid of 3RD World Computer Company, inc. for furnishing Office Furniture for the Housing Conservation and Development Agency at a total proposed cost of s= $29,279.82 is hereby accepted with funds therefor hereby allocated from the Housing Conservation and Development Agency's Housing Bond, Community Development Block Grant and Section 8 budget. _ Section 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized to instruct the Chief Procurement Officer to issue Purchase Orders for this equipment. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 21st day of July 1986. RECOMMENDATION: It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resotution awarding a contract in the amount of $29,279.82 to 3rd World Computer Company, Inc., as the lowest, responsive and responsible bidder, in accordance with Bid No. 87- aa-110 to supply office furniture for the Housing Conservation and Development Agency. Funding for this contract is available from the Housing Agency's Housing Bond, Community Development Block Grant and Section 8 budget. MINORITY REPRESENTATION: PUBLIC HEARINGS/NOTICES: ASSESSABLE PROJECT: N/A DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND: Vendor selected is a black minority. t1/A Th a Housing Conservation and Development Agency and the General Services Administration Department have evaluated the bids received in response to the specification for office Furniture for the Agency's offices. It is recommended that the contract be awarded to 3rd World Computer C~~mpany, Inc., the lowest bidder and a firm which is a black minority business. ~ ~-fig :~"~i 3 -~ ~~~ The contract will supply the furniture necessary to supplement th a existing inventory to adequately serve the additional st.3ff employed as a result of the establishment of the Agency. The funds are available in the Agency's budget. Two bids were received for this contract at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, June 27, 1988, from invitations that were mailed to 13 registered black-owned firms.
