A NOT. FOP PROFIT ORGAWATION

The Greater Miami Community Concert Band (GMCCB) had it's musical
beginning in March, 1979. Forty-five interested people attended the first
rehearsal and the GMCCB was in business. Formal organization, incorporation,
and Federal not -for -profit status followed soon after, and the GMCCB was
ready to fill a void in the Greater Miami Community.
Mother's Day, 1979, heralded the first GMCCB public performance. A
classic " Concert in the Park " at beautiful Peacock Park in Miami's,
Coconut Grove. The GMCCB has performed numerous concerts in Miami, Boca Raton,
Miami Beach, and Ft. Lauderdale. Performances have included the Music Educators
National Conference (MENC), Dade County Metro -Zoo Grand Opening, dedication
of the Downtown Center for Fine Arts -Cultural Arts Center, annual Dade County
Youth Fair, and the opening of the South Florida Historical Museum. In
January, 1984, the band made an exciting trip to perform at the NBA/CBDNA
Convention and Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida under the direction of Col.
Arnald Gabriel, Director of the U.S. Air Force Band. The 1986-87 Season of
the GMCCB included the inaugural 10 concert " South Pointe Pops " Series on
Miami Beach and a " Sousa Spectacular " Concert featuring John Philip Sousa III.
The goals of the Greater Miami Community Concert Band are to promote
and present the beauty and diversity of the symphonic band repertoire, as
well as providing an opportunity for the adult musician to be musically
expressive. The GMCCB also assists with local music education through it's
annual " Young People's Concerts " presented for the fifth and sixth grades
of the Dade County School System, with the hope that they too will want to
become future band members.
The Greater Miami Community Concert Band, under the leadership of it's
Board of Directors, looks toward the future. Many innovative and creative
ideas are being formulated for musical excellence and growth. The GMCCB will
be perpetuated by involvement and dedication of a group )f talented musicians,
all with the goal of making the Greater Miami Community Concert Band one of
the finest bands of it's kind.

Dear Mr. Odio:
;0,
A NOT -FOR -PROFIT ORGANIZATION
March 16, 1988
Enclosed is an informational synopsis of the Greater Miami
Community Concert Band's history, a copy of a letter written in Dec. 1987,
to Kitty Roedel of the Downtown Development Authority, and a recent concert
program.
My plans for next season with the GMCCB are still in preparation,
but I hope to present a series of concerts at the Bayfront Park .amphitheater.
Due to the neumess of the facility I would like to request Sunday, April
24, 1988 as a date for an afternoon concert by the Gh1CCB. It will be
important to gauge the suitability and accoustics for an ensemble of our
size and also one that does not use amplification for anything other than
program announcements. The concert will be presented free of charge to the
public, the members of the band donate their services, and therefore I
request one of the 30 no -charge days made available to the City rf Miami
for the use of activities at the amphitheater.
Please notify me as soon as possible regarding my request and notify
the Trust Committee administering the amphitheater of our activity as
specified in the operations procedures # 10348, Sec. 12 dated 11/19/87
regarding park usage.
I will be requesting at least 6 dates for our 1988-89 season running
from Sept. 1988 through July 4, 1989.
As you can see by the accompanying information we are a quality musical
organization, well established and deserving the opportunity to perform
with the full support of the City of Miami in this new performing arts venue.
I look forward to i wonderfully musical relationship.
Sincerely,
98-683
