Home My WebLink AboutR-88-06820A Oft J-88-665 7/1/88 RESOLUTION N0.9S"Goiti A RESOLUTION CO -DESIGNATING NORTH 36TH STREET FROM BISCAYNE BOULEVARD TO INTERSTATE 95 (NORTH -SOUTH EXPRESSWAY), MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS "DESIGN BOULEVARD"; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO ALL AFFECTED GOVERNMENT AGENCIES; AND URGING THE STATE OF FLORIDA TO JOIN WITH THE CITY IN THIS DUAL DESIGNATION. WHEREAS, the Wyndwood Community Economic Development Corporation has requested that the City of Miami assist in the co -designation of North 36th Street between Biscayne Boulevard and I-95 as "Design Boulevard"; and WHEREAS, North 36th Street is part of the State Road System under the jurisdiction of the Florida Department of Transportation; and WHEREAS, said co -designation has been presented to the City of Miami Plat and Street Committee; and WHEREAS, the goals and objectives of the City and those of the Wyndwood Community Economic Development Corporation have been to encourage and strengthen economic stability in the City's Design District; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The Miami City Commission hereby co -designates North 36th Street from Biscayne Boulevard to Interstate 95 (North -South Expressway), Miami, Florida as "Design Boulevard". Section 2. The Miami City Commission hereby requests the State of Florida to join the City of Miami in this dual designation of North 36th Street. Section 3. The City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to the United States Postal Authority, the Traffic and Transportation Section of the Metropolitan Dade County Public Works Department, the State of Florida Department of Transportation, the City of Miami Police Department and the Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services Department. Odi o '•% City Manager ENCLOS.:RES RECOMMENDATION 105 It is recommended 'that the City Commission co -designate North 36 Street from Biscayne Boulevard to Interstate 95 as Design Boulevard and request that the State of Florida join in this dual designation of North 36 Street. BACKGROUND The Department of Public Works has reviewed a request by the Wyndwood Community Economic Development Corporation to co - designate North 36 Street from Biscayne Boulevard to Interstate 95 as Design Boulevard. This request has also been presented to the City of Miami Plat and Street Committee for consideration. It is believed that this co -designation will further the establishment of Miami's Design District as an important economic development area of the City. Since North 36 Street is part of the State Road System within the City, it is further recommended that the City Commission urge the State of Florida Department of Transportation to join in this dual designation. /os—/ g8-682
