Additionally, the Center also provides ser- vices to Key Biscayne, Westchester, -Coral Gables, Sweet- water, and parts of West and South Miami. We are planning to secure wide media coverage which will include a strong education and prevention component to get the event's,.message across and-throghout,_the commu- nity. The Miami Mental Health Center has already obtained the support of the Cultural Affairs. -Council for this event through the active efforts of Ms. Olga Garay -Ahern, the Council's Assistant Director. This information should state the audience to be served. marketing plans, and specific Iocationts►. Clearly explain why your program/ project/event should be funded by County tax dollars. The Miami Mental Health Center ie a ramnrehoneiwe Lrostmentgggacyproviding aftercare and transitional services, substance abuse services, crisis inter- vention and stabilization and specialized services for the elderly. Its jurisdiction includes Little Havana, Key Biscayne, Westchester, Coral Gables, Sweetwater and Parts of West and South Miami. Many of these communities have large Hispanic Populations. In an effort to make the work of the Center known to the Hispanic community the Center proposes to undertake a massive public awareness campaign on mental health and substance abuse issues. This campaign will not only increase awareness but will involve for the first time Hispanic celeberties to champion the fight for mental health and substance free living. Patterned after successful Anglo campaigns which use famous media personalities to increase public awareness, the Miami Mental Health C nter will be using Hispanic artists in a series of media appearences to cross. The media campgaign will culminate in a showcase of stars being planned for the James L. Knight Center in Featuring all the performers who have donated their time to the campaign, the concert will be a public celebration of the right to Mental Health. 7.
