Dear Commissioners, Respectfully, ray Company entreats your attention and kind consideration relative to P.O. No. 90054 pertaining to 58 pieces of Greenheart.piles for Bicentennial Park. In the instant rtiatter, I proposed to the City of Miami Public Works Department to deliver 58 pieces of Greenheart piles 57 ft. long in 30 days. (It should be mentioned that a normal delivery of th1:3 naturr takes 90 - 120 days.) I roade this gesture because I was aware that 58 piles were ready for immediate shipment from Guyana and would have been here, under normal circumstances, within 30 days. However, since one can never be certait-i About the ex.3ottird15 lit thr tufting of t,e.a tr.ansportat ion, I took the precaution to advise the City (see attached letter dated Jan. 28, 1988) that my Company should "not be held responsible for any unforseen delays such as bad weather or'engine failure enroute to Miami or any other factors beyond our control." As is well known its the hardwood lumber buslrres., Greenheart piles must be barlled up -river, a distance of some 150 miles to the point of international shipping. During one Stormy night one of the bargee broke the tow and was unable to make the vessel. As a result, I received only a part of Lhe original cargo on time - only 25 piles of 57 ft length arrived in Miami. At this point, we (the City and I) had one of two options. Either (a) we wait for an additional thirty or so days for the original pilings, or (b) we utilize 35 piles of a longer length which were i«unediately available from a previous cargo in Jacksonville. The decision hinged upon the urgency of the impending Grand Prix show for the VIP ship to moor alongside. That decision was; made Jointly between me: and the City Public Works Department. Gentlemen, I hope you do agree with me that my Company should not suffer any further loss financially from this transaction. I made every effort to assist all the way. Even at the last moment i proposed to supplement other pilings to meet the grand event, an offer which the City accepted to the extent that the piles were utilized. And Gentlemen, in order to show good faith on my part and with the hope of further business with the City, I did not apply the 15% mark-up as is usual in transactions of this kind. Believe me, Gentlemen, I sold the piles for exactly the same price for which I bought them. .( See attached invoice from the suppliers, Messrs Greenheart Associates.) Sirs, my Company pleads for your kind consideration at this particular time in its life. Should the difference not be met, my Company's financial position would be debilitating, if not fatal.
