Mr. Cesar Odio, City Manager
City of Miami
3500 Pan American Drive
Miami, FL 33133
Dear Cesar:
Last year, on October 22, 1987, the following motion was introduced by
Commissioner Kennedy, who moved its adoption:
Motion 87-945
A motion of the City Commission approving in principle a $25,000 grant
request to representatives of the New World Symphony in support of the
orchestra's 1988 inaugural season: further identifying the Off -Street
Parking Authority's current operating budget as the appropriate funding
source for said grant.
The motion was passed and adopted unanimously.
On several occasions during this past year, Symphony management approached the
Parking Authority to implement this motion. Unfortunately, we were not
successful in working through this situation. Symphony management again
approached the City in the spring and explained the lack of progress on the
motion. As a result, Rosario suggested that the Symphony re -apply in the fall
of 1988. I am disappointed that with two weeks left in your fiscal year, it
appears unlikely that the Symphony will receive the $25,000 that was to be
awarded for this past inaugural season.

Therefore, I would appreciate.the opportunity to make a personal appearance
before the coms+ission at its first meeting in October 1988 to once again seek
grant support in the amount of $25,000 from the City of Miami. '

Greater Miami is the home base for this marvelous visionary enterprise and
reaps considerable benefits of, access to and enjoyment of the efforts of The
New World Symphony. As the orchestra begins to tour (this year in Florida,
next year beyond), Miami can take pride in and benefit from the orchestra as
its very special "cultural ambassador".
The City of Miami's support is vital to our efforts and would be warmly
appreciated by the musicians, our Board and the citizens of Greater Miami. On
behalf of the Board of Directors and musicians, I thank you in advance for your
consideration.
Sincerely,
aj
