• is a definite need for a formal
best establish and facilitate an
the now USS MIAMI (SSN 735) and
Besides the City of Miami administration, there are at least
three other local groups separately involved in working %awards so-
oomplishing the sue end. They are the Navy League. the Greater
Miami Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club of Miami. I believe
that all of these efforts could be unified and brought into foous
through a single organization that would develop and maimtaiA a • -
nifioant relationship between USS MIAMI and the City tf Miami and is
citizens.
I therefore propose thatts
1) fte-tCLIky of Miami establish by way of Charter a USS MIAMI Com-
mittee or Foundation,
2) That aemborship of this Commit..o/Foundation be oBed of
olvic leaders from the various groups interested in sting
this Wort (such as those groups previously Aontion•dl
3) That this Committee be rosponsible for and dedicated to or an-
isinngg activities in connection with general support for 988
MLAMI and crew and, in partioular, with ship visitations, fund
raising ating public stpport for the vessel and crew and
developing nedia publicity on eessol activitiest
►) That the Committoo should be funded by the City of Miami to
whatever extent does" feasible (SS00-$1500) in order to sup-
port the organisation's activities on behalf of the vessels
Such funding should continue on an annual basis until a satis-
factory level ($5g000)is reached and maintained$ It is antioi-
patod that the various civic groups involved would also oontrib-
uts to the funding se that a satisfactory level should be reach-
ed relatively quickly t

s) funds would be mWendod for suoh activities as orow ent"taiu-
msat during vessel visitations, athlotLe equipment for orews
osrocrow welfare problo and requests from the Comsrund-
Offioy or that are deomod reasonable for the proper baafit
welfare of the crowt
6) the City of Miami should furnish staff assistance in such
areas as lecord keepping, co-ordination and communication between
the Committee and C1W Officials, and possibly some 4t4eagraphi0
assistance.
Of course, once functioning, the Committoo would originate its
own ideas and course of action. But the above are some tial sug-
cations which I think could achieve a single efficient offort, max -
so the benefits to the ON MIAMI and that would hopefully be in
the best interests of the City of MLstai and the various oivie groups
Involved.
