HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-88-0886J-6d-919 9/26/98 RESOLUTION NO. 8"_f48(' A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF ADDITIONAL MICROCOMPUTERS AND PERIPHERAL EQUIPMENT FROM BURROUGHS CORPORATION, NOW UNISYS CORPORATION, UNDER AN EXISTING DADE COUNTY BID NO. 1059 FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF POLICE FOR ENHANCEMENT OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT'S SPECIAL INVESTIGATION SECTION AT A TOTAL PROPOSED COST OF $49,000.001 ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR FROM THE POLICE DEPARTMENT'S CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECT NO. 312014, INDEX CODE 290401-840; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO INSTRUCT THE CHIEF PROCUREMENT OFFICER TO ISSUE A PURCHASE ORDER FOR THIS EQUIPMENT. WHEREAS, the Miami Police Department's Special Investigations Section is responsible for the development of long-term sophisticated cases involving narcotics, organized crime, gambling, bombings, terrorist organizations and other related activities; and WHEREAS, at the conclusion of these cases pertinent information is stored in S.I.S. files for future reference, this recording is currently being done by hand, on 3 X 5 index cards with over 5000 entries being made in one year period; and WHEREAS, the Miami Police Department's wishes to purchase additional microcomputers and peripheral equipment under Dade County Bid No. 1059 for Unisys Corporation (Burroughs) at a total proposed amount of $49,000.00; and WHEREAS, new advances in Burroughs Hardware Technology will allow the Department of Computers to become an active partner in the design of the system; and WHEREAS, funds for this purchase will be available from the Police Department Capital Improvement Project No. 312014, Index Code 299401-840; and WHEREAS, the City Manager and the Director of the Department of Police recommend that the purchase of said equipment from Unisys Corporation be approved) NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THR CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: r-,WM„ MEEMC; OF Section 1. The purchase of additional microcomputers and peripheral equipment under an existing Dade County Bid at a total proposed cost of $49,O00.00 is hereby approved with funds therefor hereby allocated from the Police Department Capital Improvement Project No. 312014, Index Code 299401-840. Section 2. The City Manager is hereby autnoritea to instruct the Chief Procurement Officer to issue a purchase order for this equipment. PASSED AND ADOPTED this+_day of October 1988. Odi �` REFERENCES: City Manager i� ENCLOSURES: It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution authorizing the purchase of microcomputers and peripheral equipment for the Miami Police Departments Spe- cial Investigations Section, from the UNISYS Corporation, at a total cost of $49,000. The Miami Police Departments Special Investigations Section is responsible for the development of long-term sophisticated cases involving narcotics, organized crime, gambling, bombings, terror- ist organizations and other related activities. At the conclu- sion of these cases pertinent information is stored in S.I.S. files for future reference. The recording of this information is currently accomplished by hand, on 3 X 5 index cards. In the one year period between 1986 and 1987 over 5000 entries were made. Retrieval of this information in a timely manner is extremely difficult utilizing current procedures. New advances in Burroughs Hardware Technology will allow the Department Of Computers to become an active partner in the design of the system.
