ORDINANCE NO. 10500
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 40-204(C) OF
THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS
AMENDED, TO ADD AND REMOVE CERTAIN PROVISIONS
DEALING WITH AUTHORIZED INVESTMENTS AND
GUIDELINES FOR INVESTMENT OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI FIREFIGHTERS' AND POLICE OFFICERS'
RETIREMENT TRUST FUNDS; CONTAINING A REPEALER
PROVISION AND A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. Section 40-204(C) of the Code of the City of
Miami, Florida, as amended, is hereby amended in the following
particulars :
"Sec. 40-204. Trust fund.
(C) Investments
(a) Bonds, notes or other obligations
of the United States or any of its
agencies or those guaranteed by the
United States or for which the
credit of the United States is
pledged for the payment of the
principal and interest or dividends
thereof; and any of the foregoing
may be in the form of commingled
accounts as long as the guidelines
of this paragraph are met' --;-

Underscored words and/or figures shall be added. The
remaining provisions are now in effect and remain unchanged.
Asterisks indicated omitted and unchanged material.
(b) Accounts and Coertifioates of
deposit of i= any bank or other
finanoial institution incorporated
under the laws of this state or any
national bank organized under the
laws of the United States and,
authorized to do business and
situated in this state, to the
extent that such

kind of property and investment which
persons of prudence, discretion and
intelligence acquire for their own
accounts. The board may retain
property properly acquired without
limitation as to time and without
regard to its suitability for
original purchase.
Section 2. All ordinances or parts of ordinances insofar as
they are inconsistent or in conflict with the provisions of this
Ordinance are hereby repealed.
Section 3. If any section, part of section, paragraph,
clause, phrase, or word of this ordinance is declared invalid,
the remaining provisions of this Ordinance shall not be affected.

RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the
attached ordinance amending Ordinance #10002 in a form acceptable to
the City Attorney and the City of Miami Fire Fighters' and Police
Officers' Retirement Trust.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Miami Fire Fighters' and Police Officers' Retirement
Trust Board has analyzed the need to execute an amendment to, the.
existing language in the City'Code addressing investment guidelines
for the fire and police trust fund.
The proposed amendment updates the existing investment guidelines to
allow the' trust fund to participate in new investment opportunities

This amendment will have a positive financial impact, as it is
expected to increase the investment income of the fire and police
trust fund, and therefore, reduce the City's cost to maintain it -
actuarially sound.
