SUBJECT Resolution Ordering
Miami River Canal Sanitary
Sewer Improvement SR-5555-C
REFERENCES
ENCLOSURES (For November 3, 1988
Commission Meeting)
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the
attached resolution ordering Miami River Canal Sanitary Sewer
Improvement SR-5555-C•
- BACKGROUND:
The Department of Public Works, after studying the area and
considering the wishes of its residents, and in a continuing effort
_ to serve all residents of the City of Miami, is recommending the
adoption of a resolution ordering Miami River Canal Sanitary Sewer
Improvement.
Miami River Canal Sanitary Sewer Improvement District will consist
of all properties in the area bordered by N.W. 20th Street, N.W. 27
Avenue, and the Miami River Canal. The construction of this
sanitary sewer improvement is part of the City of Miami's continuing
program to provide sanitary sewers throughout the entire City.
The district is presently served by septic tanks and drainfield
a installations which will be abandoned by the property cwners after
a the new sewer system is completed.
To serve this area, the Department of Public Works has designated
Miami River Canal Sanitary Sewer Improvement in Miami River Canal
Sanitary Sewer Improvement District SR-5555-C (centerline sewer) as
an assessable improvement under Section 56 of the City Charter.
Each property designated for assessment in the ordering resolution
will receive a sewer service lateral to the property line.
The sewer district is adjacent to an unsewered portion of
unincorporated Dade County. The county is proceeding with a special
taxing district to install sewers in the unincorporated area. It
appears to be cost effective and in the best interest of both
Metropolitan Dade County and the City of Miami to coordinate the
construction of sanitary sewers within the incorporated and
contiguous unincorporated areas.
The estimated total project cost within the City of Miami is
$125,000 and will be funded by Sanitary Sewer General Obligation
Bond Funds.
