It is requested that a personal appearance item be placed on the
November 17th agenda concerning the request for a street closure
on December 1, 1988. The Street Closure will be SE loth Street
between S.E. 1 Avenue and South Miami Avenue. The time is
between 3:00pm and 7:30pm. Live entertainment will be provided
at The Firehouse Four restaurant. This special event, entitled
"A Taste of Brickell," is part of the "Out To Lunch" a Musical
Series program. The event will be held between 5:00pm and 7:30pm
that day for the Brickell community. The DDA is producing this
22-week lunchtime series in the Brickell area of Downtown Miami.
The program is consistent with the planning efforts in the area
to generate retail activity and a pedestrian atmosphere.
The total budget for the series is $30,000. DDA has provided
$15,000. A grant of $2,000 has been awarded for the program from
Metro -Dade Cultural Affairs Council Community Grants. Corporate
and property owner contributions will cover the remaining
$13,000. This is the only event that will require the the,
closure of a street.
The DDA will obtain: the required off -duty police officers;
barricades and detour signage; liquor liability insurance;
special event insurance naming the City of Miami as co-insured;
and, a fire inspector since some cooking will probably take
place. The DDA would also like to receive permission from the
City of Miami Commission to have beer and wine at the event from
5PM until 7PM. The DDA has indemnification special event
insurance for these events, a copy of the binder is attached.
