I share your concern with the magnitude of this increase. I am more concerned that the Department of Insurance staff actuaries have advised that this increase is a conservative estimate of needed rates. The indications are that losses may be substantially higher in the next year if nothing is done to correct problems within the system. Governor Martinez has created a Workers' Compensation Task Force to address the problems which have developed in the system. This Task Force has met in Orlando, Miami, Boca Raton, Tampa, Jacksonville and Tallahassee to take testimony from the public and all those involved in and affected by the workers' compensa- tion system. This Task Force will be meeting to review the testimony which has been taken and make recommendations to the Governor on corrections which need to be made within the system. I support the Governor and the Task Force in their efforts to identify the problems and draft solutions. I will work diligently to assure that meaningful reforms are made. If meaningful reforms are to be urgently needed. I urge you to to the Governor's Task Force on and to contact your Legislators enacted your help will be provide your facts and concerns Workers' Compensation Insurance on behalf of meaningful changes se-1 o 9/ Affirmative Action/ Equal Opportunity Employer Ms. Hirai January 30, 1989 Page -2- in the law.
