Educational and .Cultural Awareness
Over the past seven yearso the Haitian population has grown to be
an active and important constituency within Miami's multicultural
city. in a short period of time, Haitians have opened
businesses, taken on civic responsibilities, and established an
economic presence in the community. Dispite the impact of the over
35,000 Haitians in Dade County, there continues to be a need to
heighten and improve -tire general population's awareness and
understanding of the Haitian culture. Additionally there: is a
growing need to increase the Haitian population's awareness of the
educational and economic opportunities available to them. To meet
these primary needs, Haitian Festival 'so is being launched to
I. -promote intercultural awareness and appreciation by
showcasing Haitian art, music, dance, cuisine, and crafts
