Belafonte Tacolcy Center, Inc. (BTC) has been selected to assist
the Department of Community Development in operating the dropout
prevention component for in -school youth identified as such at
Miami Northwestern Senior High School. This component of the SYETP
aims at rewarding in -school youth identified as potential dropouts
for academic performance, good attendance, appropriate levels of
effort and meeting expected behavioral standards. This is the
third year of a multi -year program. A youth may remain in the
program for as many years as it takes him/her to graduate from high
® school. In addition, for those youth who remain in school to
graduate, the program offers the opportunity for permanent full-
time positions following their high school graduation. Four
hundred forty (440) participants would be served.
BTC has operated the dropout prevention component since the initial
year of implementation, and works with the participants year round.
