ENCLOSURES:
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the
attached resolution authorizing the waiver of green fees for the
participants in the Greater Miami Women's Golf Association
Tournaments to be held May 16, 1989 at Melreese Golf Course and
October 24, 1989 at the City of Miami Country Club at Miami
Springs.
BACKGROUND
The attached legislation was prepared by the Department of Parks,
Recreation and Public Facilities. As it has for the last
approximately thirty years, the Greater Miami. Women's Golf
Association plans to hold two (2) tournaments at the City's golf
courses during 1989. In the past, the City has; granted a waiver
of the green fees for participants in these tournaments, provided
that electric golf cart recital he mandatory and that the
Association purchase all awards for these tournaments from the
pro shops of the respective courses. Such waiver has served to
promote these facilities by attracting both new and repeat player
business.
As shown below, the impact on City revenues from this waiver is
minimal. When compared to the normal applicable rates, the
result of the proposed waiver is a difference in revenue of $960
for the two tournaments, based on an estimated 60 players per
tournament.
Proposed Tournament Rate: gross revenue $1,080
$9/player cart rental x 60 players = $540
$540 x 2 tournaments = $1,080

Normal Rates: gross revenue $2,040 ($780 + $1,260 = $2,040)
Summer (May Tournament)
$13/player (= Special Package Rate of $26 for both
cart and 2-player green fee)
$13/player x 60 players = $ 780 revenue
Winter (October Tournament)
- $12/player special green fee + $9/player cart rental
$21/player
$21/player x 60 players = $1,260 revenue
Since the Association will support these facilities through the
purchase of awards, and the after -tournament luncheons, we
recommend that the waiver be granted.
