RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE TAX-EXEMPT
STATUS CLAIMED 13Y GRAN LOGIA DE CUBA, A
MASONIC TEMPLE, IN SUPPORT OF ITS
REQUEST FOR RETURN OF MONIES TO BE PAID
BY IT BECAUSE OF ITS FAILURE TO TIMELY
FILE APPLI:CATION FOR TAX --EXEMPT STATUS
OF PROPERTY LOCATED [•JITHIN THE CITY OF
MIAMI; AUTHORIZING AND INSTRUCTING THE
FINANCE DIRECTOR TO REIMBURSE SAID
ORGANIZATION THE AMOUNT OF $4,794.93
SAID SUM BEING CONFIRMED AS THE AMOUNT
TO BE RECEIVED BY THE CITY AS A RESULT
OF THE ORGANIZATION'S NONCOMPLIANCE WITH
THE FILING DEADLINE; FURTHER DESIGNATING
PROPERTY TAXES ACCOUNTS IN THE GENERAL
FUND AND GENERAL OBLIGATION DEBT SERVICE
FUND FOR SUCH REIMBURSEMENT.
WHEREAS, the Gran Logia de Cuba, a Masonic Temple, has been
recognized as having a tax-exempt status under provisions of the
Internal Revenue Service and the State of Florida; and
WHEREAS, the City is to receive $4,794.93 from tax monies to
be paid by said organization due to its having failed to perfect
its claim for recognition of such status;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
MIAMI, FLORIDA;
Section 1. The tax exempt status recognized under Federal
and Florida law and claimed by the Gran Logia de Cuba, a Masonic
Temple, in support of its request for the waiver of monies owed
to the City because of its failure to timely file an application
for tax-exempt status of property located in the City of Miami,
is hereby recognized and the Finance Director is hereby
authorized and instructed to reimburse said organization the
amount of $4,794.93, from applicable Property Taxes Accounts in
the General Fund and General Obligation Debt Service Fund, said
sum being confirmed as the amount to be received by the City as a
result of the noncompliance with the filing deadline by the Gran
Logia de Cuba.

RECOMMENDATION
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt
the
attached resolution recognizing the tax-exempt status claimed
by

Gran Logia de Cuba, a Masonic Temple, and support its request
for
return of monies to be paid by it because of its failure to
file
an application for tax-exempt status of property located within
the City of Miami, and authorizing and instructing the Finance
Director to reimburse to said organization the amount
of
$4,794.93, which is to be paid by the Gran Logia de Cuba,
from
applicable Property Taxes Accounts in the General Fund
and
General Obligation Debt Service Fund.
BACKGROUND:
The Finance Department recommends reimbursing the amount
of
$4,794.93, to be paid by the Gran Logia de Cuba, a Masonic
Temple, to the City for property taxes, for its failure to
file
an application for tax-exempt status of property located at
910
NUJ 22 Avenue, in the City of Miami.
