Although, I feel that some minor changes and clarifications in the law would help improve an already very positive sLtuation. After working on the street under ord. 10499 I would like the City Commision to consider the following proposals on April 13, 1989. 1) I sincerely believe that more vendors should be allowed in each location, depending on the width.of the sidewalk, so as to not block the pedestrian right of way. I think that this would facilitate a vendoe leaving his puchcart to go to the bathroom, to get something to eat or perhaps to chase a suspected thief. 2) I also beleive mcre locations are aecvssary. As more vendors enter the scene we can provide space. Instead of• competing for prime locations, we can work together to provide the public with more light, security and ambiance. • 3) In relation to section 39- 17(1)(a) regarding "Handmade Art & Crafts I think that the wording should be changed so as to avoid confusion in the interpretation of the law. The words "street artist or craftsperson" should be removed because the intent of the law is that merchandise must be handmade, but not by toe street vendor. 4) Lastly, I would like to see Sec.39 -1Af ) changed. "Vending Prchibi‘-ed in Cc._ tan Locations ". It seems very inconsistent that stores selling liquor, tobacco, drug paraphanalia and sexual aids are allowed to sell during school hours, but vendors of hand made goods are banned. Thank you very much for your attention to these matters. The street vendors in Coconut Grove are mostly families with small children. We are only trying to survive in an honest and creative way.
