L. Plummer ItQtjFHirai Commissioner Rosario Kennedy City Clerk Commissioner Victor DeYurre As you know, The PLANNED PROCESS TO STIMULATE BLACK ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT Steering Committee developed the ten goals to be achieved in the black community over the next five years as described in the report, "TOOLS FOR CHANGE." Mayor Suarez has agreed to place on the agenda for the April 27 Commission meeting the funding of the Black Economic Development Coalition as described in the plan (page 21 of the report). The City of Miami share is requested at 25% of the total or $G25,000 over the five year period as follows: 1989 1990 1991 1992 1993 TOTAL (000 OMITTED) 1 $250 0 $250 0 $125 $625 We also strongly support the City of Miami receiving 35% of the Food Tax which is proposed for passage in the State Legislature. We believe passage of this legislation would be enhanced if 20% of the funds are targeted to black areas of the City of Miami through the Black Economic Development Coalition. We therefore are requesting a RESOLUTION DECLARING THAT IF THE PROPOSED FOOD TAX LEGISLATION IS PASSED, WITH 33% OR MORE OF THE DADE COUNTY FUNDS GOING TO THE CITY OF MIAMI, THAT 20% (OR 20/33 OF THE CITY'S FUNDS) WILL BE TARGETED TO BLACK NEIGHBORHOODS, THROUGH THE BEDC, TO BE USED FOR THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE STATED DEDC OBJECTIVES. The organization will. riot uny public funds after five yen=.,.
