A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION SUPPORTING THE LOBBYING EFFORTS OF THE MUNICIPALITIES TRUST FUND CORPORATION IN SECURING STATE FUNDING TO DEVELOP AND CONSTRUCT A COMMUNITY CENTER TO BE LOCATED IN THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE HEREIN NAMED OFFICIALS. WHEREAS, the City of Miami supports the development and construction of a multi -purpose community service center to be located in the City of Miami at the property known as the Fern Isle Nursery Site; and WHEREAS, it is necessary to obtain funding for such development and construction which will provide community related services such as lecture series, conferences, recitals, exhibits and artistic competitions; and WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Dade County, Florida, adopted Resolution No. 371-89, on April 4, 1989, supporting the lobbying efforts of the Municipalities Trust Fund Corporation to identify State funding for the development and construction of said community service center; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The Miami City Commission hereby supports the lobbying efforts of the Municipalities Trust Fund Corporation in securing State funding to develop and construct a community center to be located in the City of Miami, Florida, on property known as the Fern Isle Nursery Site, said center to provide an array of community related services. We take this opportunity to request that Miami consider doing likewise, so that the City lobbvists can assist the Municipios in their lobbying efforts to secure an appropriation to construct "La Casa de los Municipios" which, as you know, will be built on City of Miami land. According to Miami's use permit for the site, title to the improvement will vest with the City. This is, there- fore, a City project which should be on its list of lobbying, priorities. Also enclosed is House Bill 1158, introduced by Representative Jefferson Reaves (in his District the site is located) and the seven members of the House Cuban American Caucus, seeking $1 million for the community center's construction. We would be grateful if you would introduce a pocket item in your next meeting to support the Municipios' lobbying efforts, along the lines of the County's resolution. This is urgent as Legislative Session is underway. Thank you.
