HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-89-0464J--89-588 6/14/89 RESOLUTION NO. 99-46 4 A RESOLUTION DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO SET ASIDE $1000000 FROM PROCEEDS OBTAINED THROUGH THE SALE BY THE CITY OF CERTAIN CITY -OWNED LAND TO MIAMI DADE COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND TO SET ASIDE $500000 FROM 1089-90 COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ROAD IMPROVEMENT FUNDS FOR LAND ACQUISITION IN THE LATIN QUARTER DISTRICT OF THE CITY; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO INITIATE THE DRAFTING OF REQUESTS FOR PROPOSALS ("RFPs") FOR TWO SEPARATE PROPOSED UNIFIED DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS ("UDPs") IN CONNECTION WITH THE DEVELOPMENT OF A LATIN QUARTER SPECIALTY CENTER FOR CITY COMMISSION REVIEW AND COMMENT IN JULY 1989. WHEREAS, the development and enhancement of the Latin Quarter, as defined by City Code Section 62-76, is a worthwhile and laudable goal of the City of Miami which will facilitate the Latin Quarter's attractiveness as the focal point of Latin American culture, architecture, arts.and sciences,.recreation and enjoyment for all the residents of the City and for the City's ` ll WHEREAS# it is now appropriate to direct the City Manager to cause to be prepared, subject to applicable laws, separate RFPs for the use of said property in the form of two Unified Development Projects ("UDPs"), one Project involving development as a Latin Quarter Specialty Center with allied uses and the other Project to include development with a mixed -use component, 's both low and moderate income housing for area residents and workers, each of which RFP drafts to be brought before the City i Commission for its review, comment and approval in July 1989, and in any event prior to issuance of said RFPs; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY - OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby incorporated by reference thereto and adopted as if fully set forth in this Section. : Section 2. (a) The sum of $1,500,000 is to be set aside by the City Manager for the costs of land acquisition of. land in the Latin Quarter District of the City of Miami. The $1,500,000 is to be made available from the proceeds of the sale of City -owned land to Miami Dade Community College. (b) An additional sum of $500,000 is to be set aside to help fund said land acquisition costs, this sum to be made available from 1989-90 Community Development Road '� Improvement Funds. z Section 3. The City Manager is hereby directed to bring before the City Commission in July 1989, drafts of RFPs for two separate UDPs for the Latin Quarter Specialty Center,, one withf allied uses and one with a mixed -use development_ including low tfflf; and moderate income housing units as a component thereof. {' Section 4.
