A RESOLUTION APPROPRIATING FUNDS FOR THE PURCHASE OF EXERCISE EQUIPMENT AND THE RENOVATION OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT GYMNASIUM, AS PART OF A POLICE WELLNESS PROGRAM, AT AN APPROXIMATE COST OF $85,000, FUNDING TO BE FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND, UPON SUCH COSTS HAVING BEEN APPROVED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE WHEREAS, Florida State Statute 932.704(3)(a), as amended, authorizes the expenditure of forfeiture proceeds for law enforcement purposes not considered normal operating expenses; and WHEREAS, the duties of a law enforcement officer require that the officer be in good physical condition; and WHEREAS, the occurrence of job related injuries is reduced when employees are in good physical condition; and WHEREAS, the existence of an on -sight gymnasium greatly enhances an employee's opportunity to maintain good physical condition; and WHEREAS, the gymnasium is currently utilized by all department personnel; and WHEREAS, the equipment to be purchased is state of the art exercise equipment designed to develop all parts of the body; and WHEREAS, the gymnasium is in need of repair and the renovation will coincide with the purchase of the new exercise equipment; and WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has recommended adoption of this resolution and has determined that the expenditure proposed complies with Florida State Statute 932.704, as amended; and WHEREAS, funds to cover the contribution are available in the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project No. 690001, Index Code 029002-247; CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF JUN 7 1989 LUTION No. 89~5U1 a NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED PAY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the preamble to this Resolution are hereby approved, confirmed and adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. —fl Section 2. The appropriation of $85,000, for the purchase =, of exercise equipment and the renovation of the police department gymnasium as part of a Police Wellness Program, to be provided from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project Code 690001, Index Code 029002-247, is hereby approved, upon such costs having been approved by the Chief of Police. =i Section 3. Funding is to be from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project No. 690001. F+ BACKGROUND: The Miami Police Department is concerned with the health and welfare of its personnel. In an effort to insure that the police department's personnel remain healthy, a gymnasium was installed on the premises at the time the police department was constructed. The equipment currently being utilized in the gymnasium is outdated and the gymnasium itself is in need of repair. In an effort to reduce injuries caused by individuals who are not in good physical condition the police department is instituting a Police Wellness Program. This program is aimed at _ improving personnel both physically and mentally. It is, therefore, recommended that the Resolution authorizing the purchase of exercise equipment and the renovation of the police department gymnasium, as part of a Police Wellness Program, at a total cost of approximately $85,000, funding to be from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project No. 690001, Index Code 290904- 996; be approved. f 3 AFFIDAVIT I, Perry L.
