HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-89-06851 J-89-714 7/13/89 RESOLUTION NO. `#'� A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION STRONGLY URGING METROPOLITAN DADE COUNTY TO ESTABLISH A POLICY THAT DADE COUNTY POLICE PROTECTION BE PROVIDED AT ALL METRORAIL STATIONS, INCLUDING THOSE STATIONS LOCATED IN THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, SAID POLICE PROTECTION TO BEGIN AT LEAST FIFTY MINUTES BEFORE AND TO END NO LESS THAN FIFTY MINUTES AFTER THE SCHEDULED CLOSING OF EACH SUCH METRORAIL STATION; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE HEREIN NAMED OFFICIALS. WHEREAS, unarmed security guards presently assigned to protect the public at Metrorail Stations throughout Dade County have been recent victims of murder and rape; and WHEREAS, these acts of violence have taken place around the scheduled closing times at the Metrorail Stations; and WHEREAS, future violent acts against the public and against those individuals working at all Metrorail Stations, including the Allapattah, Santa Clara, Civic Center, Culmer, Overtown, Government Center, Brickell, Vizcaya, Coconut Grove and Douglas Metrorail Stations, located in the City of Miami, Florida, can be avoided by providing Dade County police protection prior to and immediately after scheduled closing of Metrorail Stations; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. The Miami City Commission hereby strongly urges Metropolitan Dade County to establish a policy that Dade County police protection be provided at all Metrorail stations, including those stations located in the City of Miami, Florida, said protection to begin at least fifty minutes before and to end no less than fifty minutes after the scheduled closing of each such Metrorail Station. Section 3. The City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit copies of this Resolution to Metropolitan Dade County Mayor Stephen P. Clark, all members of the Dade County Board of County Commissioners and County Manager Jaquin Avino. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.
