HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-89-0600J -89457 06/27/0 lb RESOLUTION NO. 89-600 A RESOLUTION ALLOCATING FUNDING FOR THE SPONSORSHIP OF THE YOUTH CRIMEWATCH OF AMERICA PROGRAM, AT A COST NOT TO EXCEED $12t000; FUNDING TO BE PROVIDED FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND, CONDITIONED UPON THE ADOPTION OF AN APPROPRIATIONS ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE FUNDING FOR THE HEREIN PROGRAM, UPON SUCH COSTS HAVING BEEN APPROVED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE. WHEREAS, Florida State Statute 932.704(3)(a), as amended# authorizes the expenditure of forfeiture proceeds for law enforcement purposes not considered normal operating expenses; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami, along with the rest of the nation, has experienced a major increase in drug sales, purchases and use; and .$F WHEREAS, the Youth Crimewatch of America Program focuses its efforts on the underlying problems leading to the purchase and 4. use of drugs; and WHEREAS, this year's conference will be held in Bayfront Park and anticipates reaching 1000 students, school administrators, teachers, law enforcement officials and concerned t citizens _both locally and nationally; and # WHEREAS, this year's theme is "Youth Visions for the 90'st ! "Stopping Crime and Drugs" and will feature such topics as drugs,' drop out prevention, date rapes, gangs, violence and negative peer pressure; and 3= WHEREAS, funds to cover the necessary expenses required for the above listed program have not been included in the Police Department's normal operating budget; and WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has recommended adoption of this Resolution and has determined that the expenditures proposed comply with Florida State Statute 932.704, as amended; and WHEREAS, funds to cover the necessary expenses required for this program will be ; available in the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund; and { CITY C0=18SION:', = MEETINC:,07. The recitals and findings contained in the 4N preamble to this Resolution are hereby U adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The allocation of funds and the sponsorship of t. u. the Youth Crimewatch of America Program, are hereby authorized, at a total cost not to exceed $12,000, with funding to be provided from the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project No. 690001, Index Code 029002-247, conditioned upon the adoption of an appropriations ordinance to provide funding for this program, upon such costs having been approved by the Chief of Police.
