HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-89-08309/14/09 RESOLUTION NO A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION RNOORSING THE CONCEPT OF A NEW TRAUMA CENTER TO BE BUILT ON THE GROUNDS OF JACKSON MEMORIAL HOSPITAL; FURTHER, PLEDGING, IN PRINCIPLE AND SUBJECT TO CERTAIN CONDITIONS STATED HEREIN, THE CITY'S CONTRIBUTION IN THE AMOUNT OF $300,000 PER YEAR FOR THE NEXT FIVE YEARS IN SUPPORT OF SAID CENTER. WHEREAS, Jackson Memorial Hospital seeks to build a trauma medicine center; and WHEREAS, this Commission recognizes that trauma is the leading cause of death for people under the age of forty, and 1 therefore a major health issue; and WHEREAS, the aforementioned center will serve City of Miami residents as well as other citizens of Dade County; and WHEREAS, this Commission recognizes that certain state criteria mandate the use of such a facility in specific medical t- emergencies; and '. WHEREAS, this Commission recognizes that Jackson Memorial is , the only Level I trauma center south of Orlando, and therefore the only facility capable of and empowered to offer treatment for trauma; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The Miami City Commission hereby endorses and applauds the concept of building a trauma center on the grounds of Jackson Memorial Hospital. Section 2. Upon the condition that the governmental entity of Metropolitan Dade County as well as every other municipality located in Dade County recognize their obligation — and pledge their commitment to support the proposed trauma center in the amount that is their proportionate share of the cost f a C COMMISSION { AMZRM MEETING OF 'silo'man By / SEP 14 1989 RESOLUTION No. { REMARKS: Z, E factor dated to said center, the Miami City Commission hereby cnitc itself in �„ ► principle, over $ period of five gears, to contribute $JtSoo,60o, said amount reflecting the City of Miaotta proportionate share of the factor related to said proposed center to the Jackson Memorial Foundation to be used for the construction of the trauma center. Section 3. The City Manager is hereby directed to include in the City of Miami's budget for each of the next five years the amount of $300,000 to be contributed by the City to the Jackson Memorial Foundation to satisfy the herein � Y n pledge.
