Job Requirements
- 18 years of age
- Pass City physical - including drug screening
- Possess valid Florida Drivers License
- Undergo a comprehensive background investigation, including a
polygraph
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
Training
160 hours of training; conducted by 1.1111), including:
- City geography
- Patrol procedures
- City Ordinances
- Community relations
- First Aid
- Radio procedures
Coverage
This would provide day and evening; hour coverage in Bayside and
Bayfront Park. Supervision in this case would be handled by the
Beat Sergeants.
Proposed Uses
Supplement Police Officers in the area of Bayside, Bayfront Park
and downtown. We could use approximately 15 CAPA's.

NA'CURE OF WORK:
This is routine security and public information work in and about City parks,
buildings, and recreational facilities.
Work involves responsibility for assisting in protecting City,property and
facilities and in helping to assure the security and confidence of parka and rec-
reation patrons. ,Duties require maintenance of good lines of communication between
parks patrons and the Parks and Recreation staff or the Police Department, as re-
quired. Work includes guiding and informing parks patrons regarding programs and
facilities offered by the City, aml may include safety instruction and routine
first -aid activities. General superviuion is received through conferences, reports,
and field inspections. Cuss differs from that of Watchman in that a greater degree
of tactful and sensitive public contact is required,
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
Patrols assigned area to assist in assuring safety and security of patrons and
City property.
Follows rules and guidelines and uses good judgment in tactfully controlling
behavior of groups and individuals in City parks and recreation areas to assure
security.
Uses good judgment in referring difficult and unusual security or other problems
to•superior or Police Department, as required.
Gives instruction and information to public regarding park rules, programs,
history when requested or as directed by supervisor.
Assists parks and recreation patrons in observing safety precautions. Gives
routine first -aid when required. Summons appropriate help in emergencies.
Performs related work as required.
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGES._ABLLITIES. AND SKILLS:
Some knowledge of effective procedures and methods of nesuring the security of
Parks and Recreation patrons and City property.
Some knowledge of procedures and approacites in the effective handling of groups
and individuals frequenting City parks and recreation facilities.
Some knowledge of the ordinances, policies, rules and regulations governing use
of Parks and Recreation facilities.
Knowledge of standard safety practices and routine first -aid procedures.
Ability to effectively control individual and group behavior recognizing the
rights and prLviledges of individuals or groups using City facilities.
Ability to tactfully and effectively meet and talk with the general public on
both an informal and formal bisis.
