HomeMy WebLinkAboutO-10647J-89-820 9/27/89 ORDINANCE NO. 1.0647 AN ORDINANCE DEFINING AND DESIGNATING THE TERRITORIAL LIMITS OF THE CITY OF MIAMI FOR THE PURPOSE OF TAXATION; FIXING THE MILLAGE AND LEVYING TAXES IN THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, FOR THE FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING OCTOBER 1, 1989 AND ENDING SEPTEMBER 30, 1990; CONTAINING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE: WHEREAS, the Dade County Property Appraiser estimates that the nonexempt valuation of taxable property, both real and personal in the City of Miami, Florida, for the fiscal year beginning October 1, 1989 and ending September 30, 1990 is $10,629,309,847; and WHEREAS, at an election held September 2, 1925, the City of Miami did annex certain territory unincorporated at the time of such election, and did annex certain other territory incorporated at the time of such election; and WHEREAS, from time to time other territory has been included in the corporate limits of the City of Miami by legislative acts; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. For the purpose of this Ordinance the "City of Miami" is defined to be, includes, and designates the City of Miami as it now exists with its extended territorial limits as set forth in the paragraphs prefatory hereto. Section 2. There shall be and hereby are levied upon the nonexempt assessed value of all property, both real and personal, in the City of Miami as described in Section 1 hereof, taxes at the rate reflected below for the fiscal year beginning October 1, 1989 and ending September 30, 1990, for the following purposes: (a) A tax of 9.5995 mills on the dollar for the General Fund. IL0647 (b) A tax of 2.3381 mills on the dollar to provide for the payment of maturing principal and interest, and charges and requirements related thereto, of indebtness incurred subsequent to the adoption of the Homestead Exemption Amendment to the Constitution of the State of Florida, and subject to the terms thereof. Section 3. This proposed millage rate herein adopted by the governing body exceeds the "rolled back" rate by 2.61%. Section 4. If any section, part of section, paragraph, clause, phrase, or word of this Ordinance shall be held to be unconstitutional or void, the remaining provisions of this ordinance shall nevertheless, remain in full force and effect. General Operating Budget 9.5995 Debt Service >~ 2.5337 Total Millage 12.1332 Background: The City Commission at its July 27, 1989 Commission Meeting adopted a Resolution establishing proposed FY'90 millage rates for the City of Miami. The proposed FY'90*millage rates for the City of Miami (General Operating and Debt Service) are outlined below: General Operating The proposed FY190 millage rate for the City of Miami is 9.5995 which is the same rate as the current fiscal year. This proposed rate is 2.61 percent over the rolled back rate.
