A RESOLUTION RENAMING AND CHANGING THE MAILING ADDRESS OF THE COCONUT GROVE EXHIBITION CENTER, 3360 PAN AMERICAN DRIVE, MIAMI, FLORIDA, 33133 TO THE COCONUT GROVE CONVENTION CENTER, 2700 SOUTH BAYSHORE DRIVE, MIAMI, FLORIDA 33133; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO ALL AFFECTED GOVERNMENT AGENCIES. WHEREAS, the Coconut Grove Exhibition Center is desirous of changing its name to one that more accurately reflects the type of facility for which it will be marketed and promoted by due to its recent expansion and renovation; and WHEREAS, the Coconut Grove Exhibition Center is desirous of changing its mailing address for one that more accurately reflects its location at the corner of Southwest 27th Avenue and South Bayshore Drive; and WHEREAS, the Coconut Grove Exhibition Center is desirous of remaining competitive with other convention centers; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The Miami City Commission hereby renames and changes the address of the Coconut Grove Exhibition Center, 3360 Pan American Drive, Miami, Florida, 33133 to the Coconut Grove Convention Center, 2700 South Bayshore Drive, Miami, Florida 33133. Section 2. The City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the United States Postal Authority, the Traffic and Transportation Section of the Metropolitan Dade County public Works Department, the City of Miami Police Department, the Public Works Department and the Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services Department. Odic, City Manager RECOMMENDATION: CAm23 DATE: O C T - L 1989 FILE: SUBJECT: Resolution to change the name and address of the Coconut Grove Exhi- bition Center. REFERENCES: ENCLOSURES: It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution which changes the name and address of the Coconut Grove Exhibition Center, 3360 Pan American Drive, Miami, Florida, 33133 to the Coconut Grove Convention Center, 2700 South Bayshore Drive, Miami, Florida, 33133• BACKGROUND: The Department of Conferences and Conventions has prepared the attached legislation. There are several advantages for changing these items. From a marketing point of view, meeting planners like to have conventions in Convention Centers and not in Exhibition Halls. With the completion of the new 45,000 square foot addition, the City of Miami will be able to compete with other local and national venues for major conventions and trade shows. In addition, many people are not familiar with Dinner Key but they are familiar with Coconut Grove. Consequently, the mailing address of 2700 South Bayshore Drive more adequately reflects the Center's location at the corner of Southwest 27th Avenue and South Bayshore Drive. A large number of attendees to Convention Center events are from out of town and an address of 2700 South Bayshore Drive is more easily identified than 3360 Pan American Drive. This change of address will substantially reduce the numerous calls the Center receives for information regarding the location of Pan American Drive. By adoption of the attached, the Department of Conferences and Conventions would be authorized to complete the necessary forms and notify appropriate individuals, organizations and agencies of his change.
