RESOLUTION NO. R9_959
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF A LEASE
AGREEMENT, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY
ATTORNEY, WITH EQUITABLE REAL ESTATE
INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT, INC. TO LEASE 2,757
SQUARE FEET OF OFFICE SPACE IN THE DOWNTOWN
MIAMI AREA, WITH FUNDS THEREFOR BEING
ALLOCATED FROM LAW DEPARTMENT BUDGETED FUNDS
AND RESCINDING RESOLUTION NO. 89-946.
WHEREAS, the Law Department staff has been increased by the
City Attorney's assumption of additional responsibilities
associated with the Claims Division, relocation of the City's
insurance coordinator and the addition of a nurse advisor to the
Workers' Compensation Section of the Claims Division, as well as
the addition of one attorney, four secretaries and a typist clerk
II to the Law Department since moving to its present location at
the Amerifirst Building in the downtown Miami area; and
WHEREAS, additional space is needed to accommodate the
additional staff personnel; and
WHEREAS, at the City Commission Meeting of October 12, 1989,
Resolution No. 89-946 was adopted authorizing the lease of 3,000
square feet of office space with Citibank International at the
rate of $16.75 per square foot; and
WHEREAS, the City Attorney's Office has been able to
negotiate a less expensive agreement with Equitable Real Estate
Investment Management, Inc. for the lease of 2,757 square feet of
office space in the AmeriFirst Building; and
WHEREAS, Equitable Real Estate Investment Management, Inc.
has agreed to enter into a one year lease agreement
(November 1, 1989 - October 31, 1990) at an amount not to exceed
$16.75 per square foot for this available space;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:

Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the
Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference
thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this
Section.
Section 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized to
execute a lease agreement, in a form acceptable to the City
Attorney, with Equitable Real Estate Investment Management, Inc.,
to lease 2,757 square feet of office space at a rate not to
exceed $16.75 per square foot in the downtown Miami area, with
funds therefor hereby allocated from Law Department budgeted
funds.
Section 3. Resolution No. 89-946 adopted
October 12, 1989 is hereby rescinded in its entirety.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective
— immediately upon its adoption.

At the City Commission Meeting of October 12, 19139r e
Resolution was adopted which authorized the lease of 3,000 square
feet of office space with Citibank International at the rate of
$16.75 per square foot. The City Attorney's office has been able
to negotiate a less expensive agreement with Equitable Real Estate
investment Management, Inc. for the lease of 2,757 square feet of
office space in the AmeriFirst Building. Therefore, the attached
Resolution authorizing the lease of 2,757 square feet of office
space is submitted for your favorable consideration. As
previously pointed out, the increased space requirements result
from the City Attorney's assumption of additional responsibiliti&s
associated with the Claims Division, relocation of the City's
insurance coordinator and the addition of a nurse advisor to the
Workers' Compensation Section of the Claims Division, as well as
the addition of one attorney, four eecretaries and a typist clerk
f II to the Law Department.
Equitable Real Estate Investment Management, Inc. has 2,757
square feet of office space available in the AmeriFirst Building.
Equitable has agreed to enter into a one year lease agreement
(November 1, 1989 - October 31, 1990) at an amount not to exceed
$16.75 per square foot for this available space. The prior
Resolution is being rescinded through your adoption of the
attached Resolution.
