A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION DECLARING
ITS SUPPORT FOR A ODALITION OF MAJOR HISPANIC AND
LIJMN AMERICAN ORGANIZATIONS IN THE MIAMI AND DARE
COUNTY AREA, INCLUDING THE CUBIAN-AMERICAN FUUNDXTION,
C.A.M.A.C.O.L., S.A.L.A.D., MUNICIPIOS, F.A.C.E.,
H.A.B.A., L.B.A., N.A.C.A.W. AND MANY OTHERS, WHERE
SAID CQALMON IS PETITIONING THIS COMUNITY TO
EXPRESS PUBLIC INDIGNATION AND OUTRAGE OVER THE TACTIC
OF THE CUBAN GOVERWE Tr IN SENDING REPRESENMTIVE5
HOLDING THEMSELVES OUT AS ACADEMICIANS TU ATTEND THE
DECEMBER 4-6, 1989 CONFERENCE OF THE LATIN AMERICAN
STUDIES ASSOCIATION AT FLORIDA INTMA' IONAL
UNIVERSITY MILE THE CUBAN GOVERrIIENT FORCES PEOPLE TO
LIVE UNDER A SYSTEM IN WHICH BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS ARE
NOT RESPECTED AND WHERE ACADEMIC AS WELL AS OTHER
FREEDOMS ARE DENIED.
BE IT RE90LVED BY 731E COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MUM r FLORIDA:
Section 1. The Miami City Commission hereby declares its support
for a coalition of major Hispanic and Cuban American organizations in the
Miami and Dade County area, including the Cuban American Foundation,
C.A.M.A.C.O.L., S.A.L.A.D., NMCIPIOS, F.A.C.E., H.A.B.A., L.B.A., N.A.C.A.W.
and many others, where said coalition is petitioning this community to express
public indignation and outrage over the tactic of the Cuban vW-rnment in
sending representatives holding themselves out as academicians to attend the
December 4-6, 1989 conference of the Latin American Studies Association at
Florida International University While the Cuban government forces people to
live under a system in which basic human rights are not respected and where
academic as well as other freedoms are denied.
- Section 2. This Resolution shall be effective imrediately upon
its adoption.
