AT THE ORANGE BOWL STADIUM ON = MARCH 4, 1989. WHEREAS, the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana, Inc., a not for profit corporation, presented the cultural and musical event - _ "Carnaval Miami" at the Orange Bowl Stadium on March 4, 1989; and WHEREAS, said organization has requested assistance from the - City of Miami in the form of an increase in the number of _ complimentary tickets allowed by the City; and - WHEREAS, said organization distributed approximately 4000 promotional tickets to said event, primarily to underprivileged children and nonprofit community groups; and WHEREAS, the Director of the Department of Parks, Recreation k and Public Facilities and the City Manager have determined that a E— one-time increase for this specific event will not adversely - _' i affect the revenue operation at said facility and recommend ! approval of such increase; and WHEREAS, said organization has paid for all other stadium j 3i -- rents, surcharges and operational expenses for said event; and 41 ( WHEREAS, Section 53-131 (C)(7) of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, as amended, provides that the City Commission has ! the right to establish and fix special charges or special terms and conditions for the use of said stadium; �f NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY, �i OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: :1 Section 1. BACKGROUND The -Department of Parks, Recreation and Public Facilities<:h"::_,4 - prepared the attached legislation. The Kiwanis Club of Little Havana, .Inc. has a long standing record of community' involvement and regularly participates in City programs, including the recent construction. of the Friendship Playground in Douglas Park -under.., the Adopt -A -Park Program. On March 401989 the Kiwanis presented the cultural and musical - event,. "Carnaval Miami", at the Orange Bowl Stadium. Continuing, its record of community service, . the Kiwanis distributed approximate) y4,000 piromcationai. tickets for this event, primax to underprivileged children and other non-profit community, groups.
