HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-89-1158J-89-1131 11/22/89 RESOLUTION NO. 89- iiss A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF 15,000 CURBSIDE RECYCLING CONTAINERS UNDER EXISTING PALM BEACH COUNTY BID NO4, 89-085 FROM REHRIG PACIFIC COMPANY FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF SOLID WASTE AT A TOTAL COST NOT TO EXCEED $65,700.00; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR PROM THE SOLID WASTE REDUCTION, RECYCLING & EDUCATION SPECIAL GRANT FUND, 1� PROJECT NO. 197001, ACCOUNT #320304-840; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO INSTRUCT THE CHIEF PROCUREMENT OFFICER TO ISSUE A PURCHASE ORDER FOR THESE CONTAINERS. 3 WHEREAS, the Department of Solid Waste wishes to purchase 15,000 Curbside Recycling Containers needed for the implementation of the recycling pilot program under existing Pals, Beach County Bid No. 89-085 from the Rehrig Pacific Company at a total cost not to exceed $65,700.00; and WHEREAS, it is estimated that by purchasing these bins under this existing bid, the City can save approximately $24,000.00 and meet the Advance State Grant Funds December 31, 1989 deadline as required pursuant to Ordinance I1'o.'10630 for recycling; and WHEREAS, these containers will be used to provide efficient - collection of recyclable materials, i.e., newspaper, glass, aluminum, bimetal cans, and plastic bottles from approximately 6500 households to be included in the City's recycling pilot program; and - WHEREAS, funds for this purchase are available from the Solid Waste Reduction, Recycling & Education Grant Fund,1lProject No. 197001jAccount #320304-840; and r WHEREAS, the City Manager and the Director of the Department } of Solid. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference i thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The purchase of 15,000 Recycling Curbside Containers under existing Palm Beach County Bid No. 89-085 from the Rehrig Pacific Company, at a total cost not to exceed $65,700.00, is hereby approved with funds therefor hereby allocated from the Solid Waste Reduction, Recycling & Education Grant Fund ,!/Project No. 197001, Account #320304-840. Section 3. The City Manager is hereby authorized to instruct the Chief Procurement officer to issue a purchase order for these containers. Section 4. Qdio City Manager RECOMMENDATION: DATENOV 7 1989 SUWECT : RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING' OF CURBSIDE REFERENCES : CONTAINERS ENCLOSURES: FILE PURCHASE RECYCLING It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution awarding a contract to furnish 15,000 curbside recycling containers, for use by the Solid Waste Department, from an existing Palm Beach County Bid No. 89-085, to Rehrig Pacific Company, a non -minority vendor, at a cost of $65,700.00, which funds are available from the "Solid Waste Reduction:Recycling and Education" Special Revenue Fund. BACKGROUND: The General Services Administration Department processed the request from the Department of Solid Waste for 15,000 curbside recycling containers to be utilized in the recycling pilot program. In order to secure the expenditure of advanced grant funds for fiscal year 1988-89 it is recommended that the award be made, to Rehrig Pacific Company under an existing Palm Beach County Bid No. 89-085. It is estimated that by purchasing said bins under this existing bid, the City of Miami will save $24,900.00. Pursuant to City Ordinance 10630, advance State Grant Funds for recycling.must be expended by December 31, 1989. Funds ,`for 'this purpose are available from the 1988-89 "Solid Waste Reduction:Recycling and Education Grant Fund."
