FLOIZIDA INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM TO: Honorable Mayor and OATS' NOV 2 7 1989 Members of the City Commission SUBJECT: Rate Ordinance for. Coconut Grove Exhibition Center FROM: (resat H. OdiO, REFERENCESe - -- City Manager - ENCLOSURES: ' I RECOMMENDATION: It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached ordinance amending Section 53-151 of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, which pertains to procedures and use charges at the Coconut Grove Convention Center by changing certain spgLafYied fees as determined by the type of event being held. BACKGROUND: The Department of Conferences and Conventions has prepared the attached legislation. A review of the Coconut Grove Convention Center rate schedule indicates that changes in rates are necessary in order to remain competitive with other facilities and maintain operating surpluses resulting from increased revenue sources in conjunction with careful and prudent management. Moreover, the construction of a new 45,000 square foot exhibit hall has necessitated a revised rate schedule. Under the proposed ordinance, the City would also retain the right to reduce or modify use fees that vary from the ordinance when such variances would be in the best interest of the City. This second feature of the proposed ordinance is meant to broaden the City Code by asserting the City's right to set ....,.broaden charges, terms and conditions for the use of City blic facilities.
