HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-90-0063J-90-107 _ 01/24/90 RESOLUTION NO. 90-0063 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE COSPONSORSHIP OF THE METRO-MIAMI ACTION PLAN KINGIAN NON -VIOLENCE WORKSHOP, AND ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $10,000. FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND, UPON SUCH COSTS HAVING BEEN APPROVED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE. WHEREAS, Florida State Statute 932.704(3)(a), as amended, authorizes the expenditure of forfeiture proceeds for law enforcement purposes not considered normal operating expenses; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami, has experienced social unrest and racial tension resulting in civil disturbances; and WHEREAS, there is a recognized need for peace education in an effort to avoid any future disturbances: and WHEREAS, the Metro -Miami Action Plan is conducting a workshop aimed at teaching the theory of Kingian Non -Violence, the application of which has proven to be effective in resolving potentially violent situations; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami Police Department supports these efforts and has taken an active role in the sponsorship of such programs; and WHEREAS, funds to cover the necessary expenses required for the above listed program have not been included in the Police Department's normal operating budget: and WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has recommended adoption of this resolution and has determined that the proposed expenditures comply with Florida State Statute 932.704, as amended; and WHEREAS, funds to cover the necessary expenses required for this program are available in the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF JAB! 11 t990 Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference - thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. -- Section 2. The authorization for the cosponsorship of the Metro -Miami Action Plan Kingian Non -Violence Workshop with the allocation of .funds therefor, in an amount not to exceed $10,000, from the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project No. 690001, Index Code 290904-996, is hereby approved.
