The application for our race has been submitted to the Department of Community Development. The race is part of our Law Week projects, including programs in the schools and free legal clinics for the needy. Law Day is a national celebration that originated in the 1950's as a response to the Soviet Union's displays of military might on that day. Its purpose is to remind us of the importance of the rule of law in our society. The Dade County Bar has put on this event for over ten years, and it was originally run in Coconut Grove. In the early 19801s, before Bayside Marketplace was opened, downtown Miami was not a place that was often frequented outside of normal business hours. In an effort to attract attention to the positive side of downtown, we moved the race downtown so South Florida runners and their families could become more familiar and comfortable. there.
