March 7, 1990—
Cesar Odio. City Manager
City of Miami
3500 Pan American Drive
Miami, FL 33131
Dear Mr. Odio:
Pursuant to conversations with Jeff Bartel and Linda Wolf from Mayor
Suarez' office. Earth Day 1990, Miami, would like a place on the
agenda of the City of Miami Commission meeting of Thursday, March
22, in order to request City funds for the expenses of holding Earth
Day in Bayfront Park on April 22. Timing considerations make this an
emergency item.
Enclosed is a copy of the estimate of expenses for use of the Bayfront
Park Amphitheater for Earth Day, which total S.5000. We are asking
the Dade County Commission to share the expenses with the City of
Miami. Our request to the City, therefore, is for half of these expenses,
$2500.
We are also including in the mailing a copy of the Earth Day leaflet
and a copy of the calendar of environmental events connected with
Earth Day. We want to thank the City of Miami for officially declaring
April 22 Earth Day in its meeting of February 7, 1990. We would also
like the City to designate the entire month of April "Environmental
Awareness Month." A copy of a resolution to this effect is enclosed.
Earth Day 1990 represents a significant aspiration of the American
people to begin to live in harmony with our environment and avoid
the destructive consequences of environmental degradation. We look
forward to working with the City in launching the "Decade of the
Environment" with Earth Day 1990 Miami.
Sincerely yours,
r. Chaplain Morrison
