HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-90-0279,'I-90-307 4/10/90 RESOLUTION NO. 90-0279 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SELECT THE 1990 BUDWEISER UNLIMITED HYDROPLANE REGATTA AS THE CITY OF MIAMI' S FIRST OF FOUR 1990 SPECIAL EVENTS TO BE HELD AT THE MARINE STADIUM WHICH WILL PROVIDE FOR THE EXISTING CONCESSIONAIRE'S RELEASE OF ALL CONCESSION RIGHTS TO THE CITY OF MIAMI DURING SAID EVENT; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO CHOOSE THE THREE REMAINING 1990 SPECIAL EVENT DATES UPON WHICH SAID RIGIITS ARE RELEASED BY SAID CONCESSIONAIRE; FURTHER INSTRUCTING THE CITY MANAGER TO ISSUE DIRECTIONS TO SAID CONCESSIONAIRE TO ENSURE THAT THE PREMISES ARE IN A SAFE CONDITION FOR THIS EVENT; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE AN AGREEMENT, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, BETWEEN THE CITY OF MIAMI AND VOLUME SERVICES, INC. FOR THE OPERATION OF FOOD AND BEVERAGE CONCESSIONS DURING SAID EVENT; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ESTABLISH A CONCESSION FEE OF $1,000 TO $3,000 TO BE CHARGED EACH CONCESSIONAIRE SELLING NOVELTY MERCHANDISE RELATING TO HYDROPLANES COMPETING IN SAID EVENT; AUTHORIZING THE PROVISION OF HOSPITALITY TENT SPACES BY THE CITY ON THE GROUNDS OF SAID STADIUM ON A FIRST -COME, FIRST -SERVE BASIS TO INTERESTED PARTIES AT A COST OF $5,000 PER `PENT SPACE; AUTHORIZING THE ISSUANCE OF PERMITS FOR THE USE OF SAID TENT SPACES; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO NEGOTIATE WITH INTERESTED PARTIES FOR THE RIGHT TO PROMOTE THEIR PRODUCTS AT SAID EVENT FOR A FEE COMPARABLE TO THOSE FEES PAID AT OTHER RACE SITES. WHEREAS, the City -produced 20th Annual Budweiser Unlimited Hydroplane Regatta will be held June 1, 2, 3, 1990 at the Marine Stadium; and WHEREAS, the City can choose up to four special events - = annually for which the existing concessionaire, Virginia hey Marina Partnership, will release the Marine Stadium concession rights to the City; and WHEREAS, language in the assignment agreement for. Boail Stadium and the Bobby Maduro Miami Baseball Stadium; and WHEREAS, sellers of novelty merchandise relating to the hydroplanes competing in said event will be charged a fee of. $1.,000 to $3,000 depending on market conditions; and WHEREAS, several corporations have expressed interest in purchasing the rights to hospitality tent spaces at the Marine Stadium area at said event; and WHEREAS, a rate of $5, 000 will be charged for each 40 foot by 60 foot tent space on a first -come, first -serve basis; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby incorporated by reference thereto and adopted as if fully Get forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized to select the 1990 Budweiser Unlimited Hydroplane Regatta as the City of Miami's first of four 19901'Marine Stadium special events which will provide for the existing concessionaire's release of all concession rights to the City of Miami during said event. Section 3. The City Manager is hereby authorized to execute an Agreement, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, between the City of Miami and Volume Services, Inc., for the operation of concessions during said event. Section 4. The City Manager is hereby authorized to establish a concession fee of $1,000 to $3,000 to be charged each concessionaire selling novelty merchandise relating to hydroplanes competing in said event. Section 5. The City Manager is hereby authorized to provide hospitality tent spaces by the City on the grounds of said stadium on a first -come, first -serve basis at a cost of $5,000 per tent space. l/Selection of three other such event dates during 1990 by the City Manager is also authorized by this Resolution. -2- Section 6. `rh„ City �Maniq-r i.; h-r-loy pr�rfni.t s fr7r the uSe of sai.(7 tent_ spice.-,. The City Manager is hereby authorized to negotiate with interested parties for_ the right to Promote their products at said event for a fee comparable to those fees paid at other race sites.
