HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-90-0261g M1 3 J--90-240 4/2/90 f i RESOLUTION NO. 90�0261 I A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THF, CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT A RENTAL REHABILITATION PROGRAM GRANT i BONUS ALLOCATION FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF i HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT (HUD) FOR $180,800 TO INCREASE TILE SUPPLY OF AFFORDABLE, STANDARD HOUSING FOR LOWER INCOME FAMILIES. WHEREAS, Section 17 of the United States Housing Act of 1937 established a program known as the Rental Rehabilitation Program to increase the supply of affordable, standard housing for lower income families; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami is experiencing a severe rental housing shortage affordable to lower income families; and WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has allocated a bonus award of $180,800 of Rental Rehabilitation Program Grant funds to the City of Miami; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The CG.ty Manager, as chief administrative officer for the City of Miami, is hereby authorized to accept the Rental Rehabilitation Program Grant bonus allocation from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for $180,800 to increase the supply of affordable, standard housing for lower income families. Section 2. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption. S. Department of dousing and Urhan Development in the amount of S130,800 =- Eor the purpose of increasing the supply of affordahle, standarl _� rental housing for lower income Families. 3ACKGROUND: The Department of Development and Housing Conservation recommends that the City Commission approve the attached] resolution .authorizing the City Manager to accept a Rental Rehabilitation Program ;rant bonus allocation from U. S. HUD for $180,800. These Funds ar,� granted in recognition of the City's excellent performance in committing all of the funds originally approved under the Program. The Rental Rehabilitation Program provides rental rehabilitation grants to units (DE local government to assist in financing the cost of the rehabilitation of privately owned rental housing development-, The Program is designe,i to increase the supply of standard housing unit.; affordable to lower income famiIiPs. This is achiever_ by supplying government funds for `inancial assistanc? t:-) rehahilitate existing rental housing units, Rental Rehabilitation Program Grant Financing will be madq available to owners of multifamily apartment buildings located in the City's Community Development Target Ar,=as. We are pleased to advise you that a total of $180,800.00 in additional Rental Rehabilitation Program (RR?) funds have been awarded to the City of Miami. These funds are granted in recognition of the good performance in committing all of the funds originally approved under the subject grant. Enclosed are three copies of a revised Funding Approval Form (HUD-40015) and Grant Agreement (HUD-40015.1). Each copy of the Grant Agreement is to be signed as an original by you or an authorized designee. You should keep one copy and return the others to our office. We congratulate the City on this accomplishment and look forward to continuing our working relationship with you and your staff on this important program to improve the rental housing stock affordable to Miami's lower income families.
